I really don't care about that to be honest. How many times has it really bitten them this year? It's not like teams are running all over him. Pages and Crooks are supposed to be good throwing people out, but it seems like they get ran on a lot too. And otherwise, I think he plays the position pretty well.

A guy who can hit like Herrera should stay at catcher, even if he has some holes in his game defensively. If they think that he can't handle the grind of catching, or that it is causing him to get hurt, or that they want to make room for RR and Bernal, that is a different story.

Love and admire Herrera and think the Cards do to.
His current +15.8M BTV will rise some now, but big deal, I think the Cards need to value it at around +30 or a little more. If another team wants to play at those numbers, you listen.

May and Staneks trades won’t move the needle. Flipping a IH on the other hand would be incredible if done correctly. Grabbing a top 50 prospect in a poaition of need would be HUGE.

The Cardinals did not get any of their top prospects - such as P Connelly Early - who they recently traded to the Nats for 3B Curtis Mead, who suffered a fractured wrist in his first game with Boston! Such luck.... Their #1 prospect is LHP Payton Tolle, and they also have highly regarded IF Franklin Arias, plus OF Jhostynkson Garcia (AKA "The Password").

I seriously doubt Bloom trades Ivan. He will try and trade all the usual suspects such as Noot, Stanek, JoJo, ROB, etc... He isn't going to trade Ivan or Winn or whomever else from his core. My 2 cents. We will all know in a few days. We are not going to be buyers:(

That’s a disappointing thought. Moe could do that…. I’m looking for some progressive moves. Flipping high end quality for ridiculous controlled quality. Flip bottle caps for popsicle sticks doesn’t move the needle.

As badly as Cards need good right handed bats, this isn't the best idea... trading Herrera. The deal would have to be too good to turn down!

Unless the Cardinals are getting a young MLB ready CF or 3B for Herrera that can be an every day MLB player, I’m not interested. The team does not have enough MLB quality everyday bats to trade Herrera for the injury risk of young pitching, and the Cardinals do not need more 19 year old prospects that are years away from the majors. The Cardinals are already loaded with such prospects.

This is fair. The current lineup has nothing after the first 4 hitters. Trading Herrera takes one of those 4 out. The return on a Herrera trade needs to be really good. Not a bag of 2nd tier long shots.

The catching market and RH hitter market is coming to the Cardinals at this deadline. Bloom can take advantage or wait til off season to decide. Teams need to come with best offers.

The reason to flip Herrera for a good 3B or CF, is position flexibility. 2 more catchers are coming up. One is a masher. Replace Herreras bat with Raniel Rodriguez in 2028 and add a 3B masher in the middle of the lineup.

What's NOT a "progressive" move is dealing away a 120+ wRC+ career hitter making no money w/three years of control for some prospect(s) who likely will never be as good, may not even reach MLB.

That's a loser move.
