He’s having a really strange month. He’s hitting over .350 in July with a .900 OPS but has zero homers.
I’m not sure what to think of him. He’s still so young.
id be willing to have holliday. he is hitting not well enough that he is a horrible dusappointment, but not bad enough that hes actually hurting a team. hes doing okay in2025 and 2026, he just had much higher expectations.
definitely more potential there
I'm mainly curious how insiders around the league view him. Whether they think he has lost his stock from his prospect days or if it is widely believed he still has the same potential.
There was a point where Walker was viewed as a lost cause / bust. Is Jackson headed that direction or not yet?
granted this is partially cuz holliday has just been on a hot streak to raise his avg and numbers, but hollidays 2025 and 2026 arent nearly as bad as walkers 2024 and 2025 where he was oractically unplayabke in the league.
i dont see why he wozldnt have some stock left that he could still improve as young player.

I read a report that he's among the names the Orioles might listen on.
What is the story with Holliday at this point. Some around the game talk about him like he's a bust already. Let's see, last season he wasn't terrible in just his second season. This year, he was derailed by the hamate injury early on that could have affected him still into the season. Coming up, he was a SS but has primarily played 2B.
So is he actually going to be good, or does he just have a name because of who his dad was. Or, is he a case like Jordan Walker waiting to have a breakout at some point.
Interesting post and premise. I don’t think the timing is right, unless a great opportunity falls in our lap. Bloom, Cerfolio and Pierpont seem committed to restocking our minor leagues with high ceiling pitching prospects. A move like this would subtract from the very asset we are gathering. Maybe in a couple years…..
I'm moreso shocked at the idea of the O's moving on, than the idea of us getting him.
As another poster stated the O's are a puzzling franchise. They shouldn't be giving up on certain young players just yet. But they've had two disappointing seasons in a row, so it makes one curious what they might do to try and overcorrect if they get emotional.

They need to figure out how to get Gunnar Henderson back on track. 20 bWAR the last 3 years combined to just 1.3 through 107 games in 2026.

Only reason this is getting consideration is the Dad. Hard pass.
Holliday’s .756 OPS/114 OPS+ would be the 3rd highest on the team right now behind Walker and Burly. It’s better than Herrera (.739/111) and Wetherholt (.742/111).
Jackson hasn't been healthy Had hamate surgery on his hand and a leg injury. Jury is definitely out. I'd like to get him and bring in his old man as either hitting coach or manager. The young players need to be coached by someone who has prospered at the major league level. The Cardinals have so many exemplary retired players who the players might listen to. Evidently, they aren't listening to Brandt Brown, or they are listening and it isn't working.

That hand surgery would be the question on whether he can make the throw from 3B. He has the arm strength.

Of course there is a huge erection from the fans because Matt Holliday is associated.

Henderson has 2 seasons on record of ~70 XBH or more, and is only 25. That's a much different situation of what Holliday is in. In Henderson's case, you'd almost be more surprised if he doesn't return to that previous form. Holliday is yet to fully prove it.

Yes, but he’s been a big part of why they’ve been disappointing this year. Heck if he was even like last year (and he wasn’t great hitting wise last year) they’re probably leading the AL WC right now. They’re only 2.5 back of a WC spot with as disappointing of a year as they’ve gotten from the offense. I’ve seen a number of Orioles fans on twitter wanting them to deal Henderson. Say he doesn’t want to be there. I guess they’ve got people there like CT.

Well, and you've got Braves fans who have been trying to cast off Acuna forever as well...
Well you're right about the Os but the pitching they have is not outstanding either.
