Jackson Holliday
I read a report that he's among the names the Orioles might listen on.
What is the story with Holliday at this point. Some around the game talk about him like he's a bust already. Let's see, last season he wasn't terrible in just his second season. This year, he was derailed by the hamate injury early on that could have affected him still into the season. Coming up, he was a SS but has primarily played 2B.
So is he actually going to be good, or does he just have a name because of who his dad was. Or, is he a case like Jordan Walker waiting to have a breakout at some point.

Re: Jackson Holliday
He’s having a really strange month. He’s hitting over .350 in July with a .900 OPS but has zero homers.
I’m not sure what to think of him. He’s still so young.

Re: Jackson Holliday
The Orioles are so poorly run, it’s criminal how they’ve derailed all those young Top Picks.
Gunner Henderson is batting .219 w/a sub .700 OPS
Coby Mayo is below the Medoza Line
All these Top Picks are starting to put up numbers equivalent to Heston Kjerstad, who is floundering in a minor league he conquered 3 years ago.
Hell, even Adley Rutschman is struggling to climb back to where he was 4 years ago as a 25 year old phenom!
I’d be all up for adding Holliday and seeing him at 3rd, mostly because he’s in danger of slipping into irrelevancy if he stays in that Organization any longer. It’s truly mystifying…

And those front office guys were originally part of that vaunted Luhnow cabinet.BleedingBleu wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 05:39 am The Orioles are so poorly run, it’s criminal how they’ve derailed all those young Top Picks.

It might be similar to how we see teams continuously try to pluck personnel from the Rays front office. All of them combined added up to a smart front office. But then, teams try to pluck certain individuals out of that front office and hope they can bring the Rays formula with them. And it ends up being a case by case test whether each of them can successfully do it operating on their own. They might all be intelligent but just not all meant to be the lead decision maker.
In theory, they would be hard pressed to draft and develop a more talented set of players than they have right now. 2023 looked like just the beginning. Well, a lot of those players (Mayo, Cowser in particular) are very toolsy but strikeout prone.

Re: Jackson Holliday
It'd take a blockbuster offer to get Jackson. A top prospect plus. Rodriguez, Baez, Doyle or Franklin plus add in.
It'd be great to have him anchoring 3B. Though gotta give to get. Calculate well.

Re: Jackson Holliday
Yeah, they would be silly to just give up on him and give him away.
Henderson seems like the one that's hanging lower on the tree, still a big fish to trade for in terms of prospects but also a better track record than Holliday.
That team is being portrayed as about to make a move out of haste.

Runsup, I’m thinking you may be wrong here. I was reading an article somewhere(I’ll try to find it), that the Orioles were thinking about cutting bait with Jackson. I’m not 100% sure though. I would take him in a heartbeat and get dad on staff to help him find his sweet stroke.

Re: Jackson Holliday
id be willing to have holliday. he is hitting not well enough that he is a horrible dusappointment, but not bad enough that hes actually hurting a team. hes doing okay in2025 and 2026, he just had much higher expectations.
definitely more potential there

Re: Jackson Holliday
Ok.. here it is.. not quite as negative as I thought.
“The Orioles are not letting Jackson Holliday walk for nothing, but they have surprisingly discussed him in trade conversations ahead of the deadline. Rather than releasing him, Baltimore has floated their young controllable pieces to potentially acquire immediate help like starting pitching”

There is no way I'd entertain giving up any top pitching. Position players? Sure. Pitching? Not hardly. The only way I'd give up pitching is if it returns even better pitching talent.

Re: Jackson Holliday
I'm mainly curious how insiders around the league view him. Whether they think he has lost his stock from his prospect days or if it is widely believed he still has the same potential.
There was a point where Walker was viewed as a lost cause / bust. Is Jackson headed that direction or not yet?

Re: Jackson Holliday
Interesting post and premise. I don’t think the timing is right, unless a great opportunity falls in our lap. Bloom, Cerfolio and Pierpont seem committed to restocking our minor leagues with high ceiling pitching prospects. A move like this would subtract from the very asset we are gathering. Maybe in a couple years…..C-Unit wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 03:58 am I read a report that he's among the names the Orioles might listen on.

Re: Jackson Holliday
granted this is partially cuz holliday has just been on a hot streak to raise his avg and numbers, but hollidays 2025 and 2026 arent nearly as bad as walkers 2024 and 2025 where he was oractically unplayabke in the league.C-Unit wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 08:01 amI'm mainly curious how insiders around the league view him. i dont see why he wozldnt have some stock left that he could still improve as young player.

Re: Jackson Holliday
Ok well. They drafted him #1 and he was the shining jewel. The article dares to mention a "releasing him" option? They would have to really have soured on him to get to that point. Like Nolan Gorman sour and worse.Janssen wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 07:11 am Ok.. here it is.. not quite as negative as I thought.

The Cardinals could try a low ball offer and get laughed off the phone.
May is a nice asset but not controllable. Mathews is the major league ready pitching prospect. Cardinals Add-in from there. I would think it would take Doyle plus more. I don't think Crav and others would mind flipping Doyle right now.
But hey. I'm willing to be surprised if it's a bag of 2nd tier marbles that closes a deal. But they are smart enough not to be wowed by quantity.
I would love Holliday at 3B right now. So Bloom makes the call.
