I'd love to see this!

Swing big and go for B. Woo of the M's!

Then move JJW to SS until one of the many drafted kid SS's is ready.
I have not liked what I've seen with JJ at short. I think trading Winn would be a huge mistake at this point in time.
Respect your opinion cf44

I've watched JJW there too

I think he'd be a "+" defender, no where near Winn level, but the offensive upgrade would be dramatic.

2nd base is also an easier position to find his replacement.
No way he would be a + defender at SS. His arm alone is a major downgrade. Don't fall into the group that only looks at offense.
No issue there Juan, I think I understand the situation.

Funny, I had some disagreement w/some guys in here this past winter when I posted the glove work I saw on some videos from JJW told me he'd be a "+" defender at 2nd base. Now he's the best in MLB.

You're use to Winn's arm, not many have ever had that type of hose.

JJW could handle SS and IMO would be a "+" defender there too though not as good as he is at 2nd base.
I really cannot think of a single reason to change the SS/2B combo we have right now. Offense can come from other places than SS. It isn't like Winn has no stick, he's just not elite offensively. Good teams live with that and adjust.
Only of course if you traded Winn

But offense does indeed come from SS all around MLB

The days of Dal Maxvill, Mark Belanger types are over
Dal was a sure glove but he didn't have the range or the arm that Winn does. Nor did he have the power. Good grief, Maxvill hit 6 HR's in his career. Masyn will hit 10-15 each year. Winn is an elite SS and if his hitting were to notch up, just a little, he could be an elite SS. The combo, SS/2B, is elite right now. Putting JJ at SS loses a lot in the translation. Sure, we have to consider that a SS could come along that would make it worth while to "trade up" ... Perhaps Padilla or dos Santos. But, there is no hurry and no good reason at this point. Having the best middle infield combo in the NL is special. Having the special relationship between Walker and Winn is also important. If Winn goes before Walker is extended, he might not be so inclined to extend with the Redbirds.

Imagine having traded Ozzie before he shored up his hitting.

I agree. Not opposed to trading Winn if we had a better option at SS. Wetherholt isn't the answer.
Yeah, not opposed to trading Winn for the right price, it's just that JJ hasn't looked good to me at SS. He has bounced routine throws and seems to have limited range for the position, especially in comparison to Winn.

Winn would be perfectly fine as an all glove, light bat SS if we can fill in the lineup around him with some better bats. I'm keeping him unless some team wants to blow us away with an offer.
I'm not sure if JJ is a real ML SS either. Maybe he is. Maybe not. But come on, don't use Winn as the yardstick. If you do there isn't any hope of finding a replacement in the next 20 years. Winn is an exceptional defensive SS.

If JJ is adequate at SS and a decent 2B with solid offense is found they can afford to deal Winn. Much as I like his defense getting more offense on this team is part of what needs to be upgraded for next year and beyond.

But yeah Winn is valuable and a team needs to knock our socks off to get him.

Any of those but Winn. I doubt his trade value is even that high with how bad of a hitter he is over his career.

Winn has already had in 1 of his 2 complete seasons more TB in it
than Oz ever achieved in almost 20 seasons.

Point taken. Thanks. But, not to hang Ozzie out to dry, from 1984 to 89, 6 years, his WAR averaged 6.... He stole 580 bases turning an awful lot of singles into doubles. And during that time, his oWAR average 4. There was no better SS defensively in his era and he was no slouch offensively either.

Good grief you live in a fantasy world if you think Winn's offense is going to "pick up" when his OPS has dropped every single years he's been in MLB as has his HR total, B.A., SLG%, extra base hits and you think he's going to be an "elite" SS? ::crazya::

And you know the Maxvill/Belanger comp was strictly referring to the old school all glove (and both were outstanding defensive SS's) no hit type of SS that Winn now is when comped to fellow SS"s and is not acceptable in today's MLB that needs offense from them. C'mon huge.

I'd trade Winn in a NY Minute for the right starting pitcher and move JJW to SS until a replacement is ready from the system or acquired via FA or trade.

And if J. Walker can't function w/o his little buddy, then who cares if he leaves? He's only had one good HALF of a season (J. Walker since the ASB: 0 HR's/.196 .275 .283 .557) since his rookie season.

Got it rock. Trade Winn and let's let Walker take a hike. All we need is a pitcher.
