I really cannot think of a single reason to change the SS/2B combo we have right now. Offense can come from other places than SS. It isn't like Winn has no stick, he's just not elite offensively. Good teams live with that and adjust.rockondlouie wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 14:30 pmNo issue there Juan, I think I understand the situation.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 14:04 pmNo way he would be a + defender at SS. Swing big and go for B. Woo of the M's!
Then move JJW to SS until one of the many drafted kid SS's is ready.
I've watched JJW there too
I think he'd be a "+" defender, no where near Winn level, but the offensive upgrade would be dramatic.
2nd base is also an easier position to find his replacement.![]()
Funny, I had some disagreement w/some guys in here this past winter when I posted the glove work I saw on some videos from JJW told me he'd be a "+" defender at 2nd base. Now he's the best in MLB.
You're use to Winn's arm, not many have ever had that type of hose.
JJW could handle SS and IMO would be a "+" defender there too though not as good as he is at 2nd base.

I understand, Rock. But I prefer JJ at his current position. Reminds me of Utley. Add bats at 3b and the OF.rockondlouie wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 14:30 pmNo issue there Juan, I think I understand the situation.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 14:04 pmNo way he would be a + defender at SS. Yanks Bellinger has ham string strain on IL with Judge. Noots and Pages or Crooks, ???? for Laland or Facundo - LHP in A or Hess - RHP in AA. Or players a person well versed on minors could recommend.

Think they’ll hold onto ROB and Noot
WHY would anyone trade Burly, the one guy on this team that actually hits? Just a completely insane idea!

Like I said, not advocating for it, just pointing out that bloom has no attachment. If a team came to him with an over the top offer, he might take it.imetsatchelpaige wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 16:40 pmihornetfb52 wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 12:43 pm I’m not advocating for trading anyone except the expected. But offense does indeed come from SS all around MLB
The days of Dal Maxvill, Mark Belanger types are over

I’m picking one partly because I don’t think we will see more than that.
O’Brien. He’s controlled and valuable. A team will want him for 7,8 inning duties maybe closer if they have a gap there. This could bring back a nice pitching prospect for 2027.

Which Cards players are other teams "buying" is the real question. What are those "buyers" willing to give in return is the next question. Bloom may get underwhelmed by the offers he receives for the players he wants to move, but might get bowled over by an offer for one of our "keepers". You just never know. I do trust Bloom more than I ever trusted Mo.

I’m more interested in what Bloom wants to trade for? Third baseman? Outfielder? Major league ready pitching? Clearing salary and dead weight like Noot, May, Stanek, and others is clearly a goal but what would we get back?

Primarily pitching. 3B would be nice, but I’m doubting they find a fit there. Outfielders I’d be shocked.Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2026 12:27 pm I’m more interested in what Bloom wants to trade for? Third baseman? Outfielder? Major league ready pitching? Re: Who is Bloom trading
Anyone who thinks that Winn is or should be untouchable is just foolish. We don’t have to give him away but in the right deal Winn is certainly tradeable. Like others have said, the SS position has evolved into more of an offensive role. It is quite possible to find a SS with a good glove AND be able to help offensively.
Part of the issue is Marmol is trying to force Winn to be something maybe he just isn’t. Winn hitting leadoff, Winn hitting cleanup, just ridiculous asks. Even now, hitting him in the 5 or 6 hole is more than he should be asked to do. Hit Winn eight or ninth and let his glove play. Should we trade Winn, not necessarily but not out of the realm of possibility.
