Nothing wrong with any of that. Liberatore is the one who failed in his mission, not Marmol.
I agree on all three, especially on saving the bullpen
For what?
They’re in game 12 of 26 straight games
I realize that. But defend all you want; he needs to go more than one inning with the same reliever at times with the pen. He doesn't have to use every guy in some games.
Bullpen wise, I think Oli is dealt a bad hand.

I mean, it’s easy to say so and show should pitch multiple innings

I just counted 7 relievers on pace for at least 60+ innings.

If Libby makes another start, they have given up
They (front office) aren't giving up. They never had hope or desire for 2026. This slide is exactly what they want.
The team isn't good enough. They can't hit 5-9, and the bullpen isn't any good. There were zero expectations this season. They played better than anyone predicted through the first half. Reality usually sets in at some point over 162. This slide was always likely.
Thats what I was saying. This slide makes it easier for the front office to be sellers next week.
Yes, but to paint it as that’s what they want is implying they’re at odds with the fanbase, like they’re the owner of the Indians in Major League.

Not at all. Just saying they will face less push back from the fan base now. Most will now support the decision to sell.

It is no wonder the pen is overused.

Once again, they baby Libby
Down only 3 runs early. Libby was getting lit up. Dobbins was their best chance in keeping it close enough for a comeback. Would you rather they concede while down 3 runs in the 3rd inning?

As for Dobbins. What do you mean "he deserves a fresh start"? What has Dobbins done to dictate deserving any special treatment. He was trusted to hold deficit, and eat up some innings. Id call that respectful.

Okay, but how many of those guys went less than an inning because they came into the game, got blown up, and couldn't get three outs? Or they got one or two outs in one inning, came back for the next, then blew up? And how many pitches are these guys throwing each game that they get into? I'm sure Oli would like some relievers that he could trust a bit more, but all of those guys have generally been not all that great to downright bad.

I'm not sure that list proves anything.

True, but it always helps to come out of the first half inning without being behind. I agree, the offense has been pathetic. It seems to pretty much go with Walker and he is in a bit of a mini slump. I don't like him batting second rather than 3 or 4, but whatever. Ivan looks like he might break out. Pretty hard to win when it seems like only one guy a game is hitting. You need 3 or 4 guys to have a good game. Nootbar has regressed to, well Nootbar. JJ is in a little slump except for the homer the other day. You can afford one or two guys slumping at the same time, but not most of them!

I hear what you're saying and yes, major slumps are occuring up and down the lineup. Perhaps opposing ML pitchers have them figured out now. They're not picking each other up and you're not going to win many scoring 3 or fewer runs a game. I'll be happy when the trade deadline expires and I have a feeling so will most players.

This is an OP about Libby/Dobbins, right?

I wish Dobbins would have started - he would have saved pen that way

I’ve seen enough of Libby, he is entering the Mikolas and Fedde futility team

He is awful and you are literally conceding the game

IMHO, starting Dobbins and bringing in Libby in relief makes more sense.

I love the concept of LH piggy back starters following RH starters and being followed by RH relievers.

Those LH piggy back starters won't have to face tons of RH hitters stacked specifically to face them.

It only seems like it makes sense because it didn’t work at night.

Not sure last night was the time to remove him from the rotation…

It will be interesting to see if the Cards have an innings limit in mind for Leahy.

2026 101.1 IP so far
2025 88.0 IP
2024 76.2 IP
2023 85.0 IP
2022 159.0 IP (include AZFL)
2021 86.2 IP

I would guess 120 to 130 IP which means about 4 or 5 more starts... or move him to the pen for the final 1/3 of the season.

However, since he is 29 years old already, they may not be too careful.

Now you pivot tonight.

I would rather watch a Dobbins start, you burned 2 starters you buffoon, well a manager with balls would start Dobbins instead of the Lazy Lefty Libby

You are a double talking fool Oliver
Incredible poor management but what else do we expect from him?

Dobbins should be the one STARTING GAMES w/Libby in the pen' where he belongs, not the other way around but Oli just isn't smart enough to see it.
Rock, I expect that call does not belong to Marmol..
Dumb take by rock.

Dobbins got starter work last night and saved the bullpen.

Things will shift after the deadline…
some are so consumed with their disdain for marmol that they have lost any objectivity...
It's crazy the things some people think Oli controls.
