I think we all need to recall at the start of the season, almost every pundit and almost everyone on this site predicted a 90 loss(or somewhere close to that) for this team. Seems to me we should all be thankful.....but I'm often wrong.

I think we all need to recall at the start of the season, almost every pundit and almost everyone on this site predicted a 90 loss(or somewhere close to that) for this team. Seems to me we should all be thankful.....but I'm often wrong.

Yes, good point. I am still very pleased with this season, and have resisted the urges to succumb to playoff/wild-card hype, but still this latest stretch has been a little frustrating. It seems some of the youthful exuberance and life has been sucked out of this team. A good win or two could change that, but someone needs to step up.

Yes, good point. I am still very pleased with this season, and have resisted the urges to succumb to playoff/wild-card hype, but still this latest stretch has been a little frustrating. It seems some of the youthful exuberance and life has been sucked out of this team. A good win or two could change that, but someone needs to step up.

Well Brummer my friend, you know the drill. This is what .500 teams look like. They pitch well for a stretch, but don't hit, or they hit and don't pitch, or they play great D, but the ball finds the weak defender who the manager tried to sneak in for his bat..... I figured they might sniff 85 wins if all went well. Now not so sure..... Still, I am enjoying watching JJ, Walker's breakout, Winn play D, Pallante not regress, Leahy improve, etc... I think Blaze can hit too and will. So these are fun things to watch. The organization is on a good trajectory now.

I'm on board with all 3 of you. Hopefully they can find some balance and finish the season strong. A .500 record at the end of the year is still a step in the right direction.

My goal at season's start was simple. Build for the future and avoid last place. I'm satisfied with the former, but the latter has crept into uncertainty, partly because the division is much stronger than anyone expected.

If you asked me my biggest concern right now:
It would be NOT getting clarity on certain players.
In other words.....keep or get rid of??
Example- before ST I wanted direction on Walker & Gorman. No more kicking the can down the road!
I would say YES for Walker and NO for Gorman.

Obviously we want more YES votes than NO votes.
But...at least a NO defines a need Bloom can address next offseason.

One area where we disagree. I think Gorman is not a "no" but a "hell no!" We also need clarity on our catching prospects but don't have that yet. Burly? He's a keeper in my book (a yes, not a hell yes). Nootbaar. I like Noot but I'd like to see them trade him for worthy prospect.

IMHO Noot is who he is and will not improve. A decent fourth OFer, or a third OFer on a really stacked team. He is not going to be any sort of key piece moving forward. If Bloom can get any decent return he should be dealt. Church gets a little more runway to see if he can improve, mainly because current options are limited. Hopefully some of the guys in the system can make it to the show and be more effective, but that is not for a while.
