Re: Dusty Blake
3 of 5 starters are outperforming preseason expectations. May is as expected overall. Only Libby has regressed. What more can you really ask out of Blake with the roster he has?

It doesn't matter what I want or what you want. It's what Bloom wants and the cubs roadmap already proved it works. They didn't bring Maddon in until the were ready to make a push. Until then, it was Renteria and Sveum (forgot about him) taking the bullets on the worst parts of their re-build. Maddon got to take advantage of the harvest without having to work the fields...sow to speak (see what I did there?).Goldfan wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 09:42 amREBUILDING…..starting from square 1 with young impressionable talent. Why waste a good hire on a rebuild going into a lockout. All things will change on the backside of the lockout. Until then no money spent, no notable hires. Once 27 is done and gone they will have a good idea of at a minimum of 5 guys that will be the 2027 and beyond base for the starting 9 and at least 3 good starters all home grown and fired up. They will ad a few notable FA's or trade pieces and somewhere in there expect a new management crew to get the boys fired up. Oli and his crew are on borrowed time unless they can make a team of nobodies do something special in spite of them.imyourhuckleberry wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 22:04 pmThere is a good chance the pending lockout is why Bloom didn't bring in a new manager. An experienced, high level manager (which I'm assuming people want) will be a 5 year deal for BIG $$$. If year 1 (2026) was slated to be a re-building year and year 2 is likely to be delayed by a work stoppage (as well as another re- building year), why would he knowing waste 2 years of a 5 year deal and whatever dollars?2forDiving wrote: ↑26 Jul 2026 21:51 pmIf there is a lengthy lock out his choices will be to show a little urgency and spend some $$$ or sell the team. Is there anything that anyone here sees that he does to produce a better pitching staff?
This guy could walk off into the world and I don’t think anyone would notice but this FO, even tho new and bringing in their own, Keep this guy around
This narrative that the team is REBUILDING so just keep the turds……Oli, Dusty…..whoever
The Chit continues to stink and contaminate the cleanup until it’s completely purged and cleansed.
2. Because he's buddies with Oli.
3.He is lauded for keeping pitchers healthy.
I think Blake is on the same page as Bloom and his analytics team.
I think they are willing to let the staff grow with the roster.
The cubs are a perfect example. They had the immortal Rick Renteria managing the team through the worst parts of their re-build. Once they were ready to compete, they made the move for Joe Maddon.
Additionally, it's also very possible Bloom has a candidate or two he's interested in who aren't currently available.

Ok. Doesn't change any of the facts. They spent the 5 seasons previous to 2015 tearing down and building back up. 2016 was the culmination. 2015 (Maddon 's first year) they got their taste. Prior to that the sucked, badly.Goldfan wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 17:22 pmIn 2016 the Cubbies had the 5th highest payroll in MLB at 185milimyourhuckleberry wrote: ↑27 Jul 2026 17:20 pmIt doesn't matter what I want or what you want. Re: Dusty Blake
Explain to me what Blake is doing wrong as a pitching coach. No pitching injuries is a big deal. But more importantly. What do you know about the duties and skills required of a pitching coach?.

He seems to have an uncanny ability to keep his pitchers healthy, unless someone wants to blame him for apendicitis
