I have posted this in a couple of different threads. The problems with the team aren’t in the moves that they have made but in the players on the team, specifically at the top. Both Wetherholt and Herrera have been struggling at the same time at the top of the order. Walker and Burleson have both been hitting the ball but their RBIs have stagnated because the guys at the top aren’t creating the same opportunities that they were earlier in the year.

I’m not knocking those two, I’m a fan of theirs, but the offense has slowed because they are struggling to get on base. Wetherholt and Herrera seem to be the engine that moves this car. Our offense will pick up when those two start getting on base again.

In no way is this a shot at JJW who I'm already a HUGE fan of and think becomes the face of the franchise as early as next year.

I also think he's by far and away the leader for ROY given his terrific 3.8 fWAR!

This is just an observation, NOT a criticism.

It seems since he inked his long-term extension he's trying too hard to live up to it and putting some undo pressure on himself.

I was at the game the other day, not sure the TV mics picked up on it, but I could hear him let a loud " F word" after striking out again.

If anything he's trying too hard and given the outburst of frustration I heard the other day at the ballpark he might be letting it get to him.

Hopefully Oli or one of the coaches takes him aside and reassures him he doesn't have anything to prove, he's already done that as evidence by that great 3.8 fWAR.

(Now watch he'll get 10 hits vs the Scrubbies in this four game series...........I'll be at a couple of those games cheering him on and sure hope so!)

Walker hasn’t done much since HR Derby. He should be hitting third not second in the lineup. Walker is/should be the offensive leader on the team.

Oh yes, and a rookie is bound to endure a rough stretch or two during the long season they have never experienced. We should be patient with JJ, who is among the best fielding second sackers in the game today, and still has a OBP of .349. Even though he did not get a hit vs the Reds in 3 games, he reached base 4 times and scored 3 runs. He is pulling the ball too much lately, and needs to hit more to left field.

Baseball is a constant series of adjustments.
JJ came on the scene and produced.
The opposition adjusted.
Now JJ will readjust.
Etc etc
It will be constant and ongoing but the kid clearly has the tools to succeed.
He is the least of our problems.
