I'm 100% certain that the Blues are not in on Marchenko. With that said, if they were, and he would agree to a sign and trade, they would ship out Carbonneau so fast it would make your head spin. 70 point, 26 year-old wingers with size don't come along that often. Especially ones that can play the LW and RW effectively. Again, I don't think there is any chance we are involved, but they would trade JC, probably one of Buch/Suter to make the money work (yes, Buch has the NTC), at least one 1st round pick, and probably Stenberg. That would be the minimum to get a signed player like Marchenko. Would probably cost more though imho.
They're not going to trade Carbonneau for a 26 year soon to be RFA who is going to command huge money.

How would that make sense.

Sure maybe if you could trade Buch, but Buch ain't waiving to go to Columbus lol

If true I'll be interested in the return.
It won't be Hage.
I would think Zharovsky for sure and perhaps Reinbacher or Pickford.
Can Montreal extend Marchenko for under 10 per where their current top 3 wingers sit?

How good is Marchenko and does he still have some upside left as a 26 year old winger?
It's not like he's a physical force even though he's tall.

He certainly would fill that 2LW need for the Habs.
Once Hage arrives:
Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Marchenko - Hage - Demidov
When I first saw Montreal as the front runner my thought process was "what do they have to trade that Columbus would actually want?"

Id think the Blues would be able to put a very nice package together. I just don't think the Blues are ready to shove their chips forward like that just yet. Blues would have to send a pretty package to land Marchenko and I think they want to see their roster develop a bit before they start trading away assets. Just my view on it.

Still I'll allow myself to dream for a second. This would be a pretty sweet lineup. Especially if Carbonneau turns into something in a year or two.

Holloway Thomas Snuggerud
Marchenko McTavish Buch
McMichael Dvorsky Berggren
Johnston Finley Torpchenko

Move out Neighbours, Suter (just to shed a contract) and a 1st for Marchenko. Maybe more. Not sure what else. Maybe also a LHD prospect. Maybe Lindstein. What do you guys think it would take.
I would bet the first player out of Waddell's mouth that he wants from STL is Carbonneau.
They need talent in general and also are left shot heavy at forward if they trade Marchenko.

If Werenski sticks around the BJ's have plenty of LHD so no match there with the Blues.
Provorov, Mateychuk, and Smith (perhaps their best prospect).
They need a potential top 4 RHD in their pipeline which we're not giving up.

Montreal is a better fit because they have their needs.
Agree with you that they probably don't want a LHD and also agree with you Blues don't have a RHD to trade.

Blues ain't trading Carbonneau either.
For Marchenko, I think they easily would. If they’re asking for Carbo to be the main piece, I’m not hesitating. But I think j they’d ask for a lot more. If I’m Columbus, I’m asking for Snuggerud AND Jiricek. That’s a no from the Blues. But in any event, I suspect this is just agent meddling to get the Jacjwtw to increase the AAV on their offers.
I’ll play, even though I think if KM is traded he’s going to Montreal.

That said, I could see a deal centered around Dvo and JN63.

The piece the Blues would need to move is Neighbours off the NHL roster in any such trade as this.

If the Blues are trying to add a winger in a trade, an NHL winger, they need to subtract an NHL winger. And Neighbours would be the one to go that another team might want.

Why are we slotting in the RH Marchenko, who plays RW, at LW in the Blues lineup? Am I missing something? It seems to me Marchenko would be the Blues’ 2nd line RW, bumping Buch down to the 3rd line. Or possibly the 1st line RW, with Snuggy moving to the 2nd line.

I would not hesitate to trade Neighbors and/or Carbonneau for Marchenko. We need NHL players now, while Thomas is still prime age and wants to be in St. Louis. Plus Carbonneau becomes less of a long term need if the team has Marchenko and Snuggy at RW, assuming Marchenko is immediately extended when the trade is made. A winger off the NHL roster will need to be traded to make room for Marchenko, and Neighbors would likely be of interest to Columbus.

Holloway-Thomas-Snuggerud
McMichael-McTavish-Marchenko
Suter-Dvorsky-Buchnevich
Johnston-Finley-Toropchenko

Broberg-Parayko
Fowler-Mailloux
Lindstein-Carlo

Hofer
Binnington

You missed what I said in the bold and italic above. Soon to be RFA....absolutely not. A signed and traded Marchenko, trust me, they would ship out JC in a heartbeat. He scored more points last season than any Blue. The only Blue who had better ppg numbers was Thomas. And again, he's 26. If you could get him for even $10.0m per season for 5-7 years, you drive JC to the airport, along with all the other assets it would take. We will just have to agree to disagree on the value here. Either way, to my first post, I don't think we are in on Marchenko anyway, but this would look pretty good.

Holloway-Thomas-Snuggs
McMike - McT - Marchenko
Neighbours - Dvorsky - Buch
Johnston - Finley - Toro/Walker/Berggren

This just assumes that Suter went along with JC, and other assets. Might cost Neighbours too.

I think you try to send prospects like Carbs, stenberg etc.

Holloway/Thomas/Snugs
MM/McT/Marchenko
JN/Dvo/Buch

[shirt] is starting to get real if you can get that done.

Yeah if he will sign.

If you could sign him to a 7x10 and Columbus will give him up for futures then sure.

But he's going to want more than that I believe. And they will want at least one NHL player.

If they could sign him to a contract I'd move out Neighbours and Carbs for him. And maybe something else too.

How do you figure? Seems to have some traction behind it.
It was "broke" by a random X rumor account that doesn't have any legitimacy and CBJ have also said the reports are 100% false

As much as i really like marchenko i think the smart move is to continue to see what we have. Not that i think carbs takes over the 2rw this season but he may the following at some point.

We really dont know what we will need when its time to jump to contenders. But with the moveable pieces we have i think we will be ready with a solod offer.

This was first reported on the NHL Rumors Report X account. Portzline who is a reporter for CBJ came out today and said nothing is happening.

The Blues were supposedly interested in Robertson so it’s possible they would be interested in Marchenko. If they got him would he slot in above Snuggie or below him? There is only so much room on PP1 as well.

Columbus has said he will start the year there.
Meanwhile, they avoided arbitration with Sillinger amd Greaves, but seem stuck with Fantilli. Not sure they have the cap to extend him now, hence the renewed speculation on Marchenko.

Eklund (lol) saying its MTL or PHI.

MTL seems to make the most sense.

I thought Marchenko was an RFA this whole time - he’s still signed through next year. Why is this a thing, then? Columbus has $14.5 mil left to sign Fantilli, and he’s not going to make Bedard money. Columbus should ride this out, and, worst case scenario, they sign Marchenko to a 1 year deal a year from now (or, if that’s what Marchenko wants, then they desl him) or they go to arbitration. Columbus should be in no hurry to do anything.

Columbus’ only reasoning for trading Marchenko now is risk of an injury or down year decreasing his trade value. I don’t think his trade value for Columbus will increase if they wait to trade him.

Armstrong implied that the pursuit of Robertson was [nonsense]. He joked about talking to another GM and saying “I just read we almost made a huge trade but we haven’t talked in weeks” right after that rumor hit. Pretty likely that’s what he was referring to.
