No defense of bad contracts, but back-to-back finals (losing 4-3 and 4-2) is "nothing"?

That had more to do with the transcendent brilliance of McDavid and Draisatl that Bowmans skill at building a team.

agree that back-to-back finals isn't 'nothing'

also agree that McD takes a discount and EDM spends it on... Walman?

ridiculous

I thought for sure a certain Blues forward who has 5 yrs (I think) left on a contract was going to be on this list. Did I miss something? Lots of complaints here about him. Hopefully he has a nice rebound year with the new line changes.

The immediacy of it happening made it even more insane! I seem to remember they announced the Walman signing within a day or two after the McDavid extension. Maybe Walman is a buddy or McDavid and he blessed it, but otherwise, it was ridiculous.

Many of these don't seem so bad.
Trouba is 31, plays 22+ minutes, puts up around 35 pts, a plus player, averages 170 hits, and 180 blks a year and contract is only for four years. While 8 sounds high. Two things to consider. One he was a free agent(always costly)Two. 8 is the new 5.
All including age are better then the great Parakyo.

In another thread people are carrying on as if the Ross Johnston contract is the worst fiscal malpractice in the history of organized sports, and yet I don't see his name on the list. Weird.

Bad contracts are subjective, all depends on what your options were/are and that is very different for different teams and/or teams at different stages of competitiveness.

Its hard to have a bad contract AND be well under the cap/budget.

For example if a prominent UFA is willing to sign in Columbus is there even such thing as a bad contract?

People miss a lot of details that are very important. If signing Trouba ends up keeping Celebrini in San Jose(by being more competitive the next few years) then its a great contract, they have the money to spend and need to get competitive. Walman is a terrible contract, thats a team that didn't have the money was competitive and needed to squeeze out every nickle.

That Trouba deal is terrible. I forget who was arguing with me that was a good, or necessary, contract. Everyone is entitled to their views but I disagree on that for sure.

The Tuch deal isn't going to age well at all. Good luck with that Caps.

Funny to see Carlsson there. Man did Verbeek screw that up.

And yeah, Petterson, that's a terrible contract. The Oilers, it's almost fake how bad that organization is ran. Like comedy.
I was surprised with the Tuch signing as well but someone on here said Tuch was one of the best in the league. Couldn't believe it.

The way they talk around here you'd think there would be 4 or 5 Blues on that list.

I think the Blues are known league wide as a team that signs bargain deals….they’re right there with Montreal imo.

I said as soon as Frederic signed that 8 years is way too long. Same for Tuch.
