I think they're trying to rush Mautz into a BP role for after the trade deadline....again, not sure if this is permanent or if he'll go back to being a starter next season with Memphis....but I think they're hoping he and Rincon (maybe) can fill the void after the trade deadline with St. Louis

Prediction: Mathews and Doyle end up as rotation members for several years at the MLB level beginning this year for Quinn and next year for Liam.

Cijntje, Clarke, Franklin and Hjerpe all help form an absolutely dominant bullpen that is the envy of the league which dominates lefties and righties.

If I had to put money on it, I'm saying Franklin claims a rotation spot before Doyle. We'll see.

what will hold Franklin back will be the Cards intention of going slow with him. Bloom said the first 2 years will be very slow as they try to increase his work load...expect 1 stop seasons the first 2 years.

Doyle could figure everything out next season and press the issue...I don't think he will, but he could. Something might just click for him. I think he'll initially struggle at AAA with the thread difference in the ball....but he might just make it happen.

I agree with you, but I was just erring on the side of caution. We've seen crazier things, where sometimes things just click... Wainwright is a good example

I’m really disappointed in Mautz this year. His number of walks is alarming. Maybe he adjusts as Mathews seems to have, but no way he can pitch as a starter or reliever for the Cardinals with that bad of control.

Its actually worse than low baseball IQ. He was sent to Memphis because he struggles to hit. If the purpose of being in Memphis is to learn how to hit, he should try to hit every time he is at the plate in Memphis, in particular when the bases are loaded and two outs. If he can't do that, he has no path back to the MLs.
