Everyone on here mocking those who wanted NV on the Opening Day roster cracks me up. You all are conveniently omitting the really good Spring Training this guy had. At the time there was a strong argument for him to make the club.

Velazquez is never going to see 600 PAs in a season from any team in MLB. So extrapolation for a guy who can't really play the OF is kind of pointless. DH? His career OPS doesn't qualify him there, either. He's a RH bench bat.

I don't think anyone disagrees with this. And if he had been a bench bat on OD, I think most who were advocating him being on the roster would've been OK with that. What was confusing for me was having a team lacking in power keeping two no power middle infielders for the bench.

This rebuild season hasn't made much sense. Why include Stanek to the bullpen? Why not a younger arm that fits your timetable? Why play Pages so much? Why was Pozo kept as a 3rd catcher (when rarely getting any pt)? So many things do not add up to a true rebuild.

My forum based friend, I hope you realize I hold no personal animosity for a spirited (or argumentative) conversation I get into on here. A lot of things I post are tongue-in-cheek, but I will occasionally call out things i do not like. But there is no ill will towards other posters. Thanks for the entertaining banter. Hopefully we see a win tonight.
Velazquez was signed for the same reason as Urias, Bruihl, and a couple of others.
Bloom hoping to get lucky and maybe having a piece or two who surprised enough to throw into a deadline deal.
Bloom never intended for Velazquez to be in the organization past the deadline.

Why wouldn't Pages start games early in the season? Who else should have started them? Crooks wasn't ready. He tore up AAA for a few months and is playing like (bleep), so why would he get starts early in the year? Pozo? Why not Pages? No one said he was the answer, but he's not a bad stopgap until Crooks got called up.
