I guess I'm struggling to understand how he's worth 15 per year. Theres probably 50 players or more in the league I'd rather have on my team. Also the cap only went up 10% not 100%. I would have thought 12 tops.
He isn't worth 15 a year. He might not be able to stay healthy and as others have pointed out, he's nowhere near the top of the league yet in points.
It's also true the team he's on has sucked and he hasn't had much help.
Chicago is very much betting on the come. Could work, could fail drastically.
When I look at their roster they have a dramatically over paid Byram and a dramatically overpaid Bedard. Guess we shall see.

He is too worth $15m per, and you would be ecstatic for the Blues to pay it if he was their property.

Based on what exactly. My post laid out my argument. Yours lays out your opinion.
Please explain how the 35th highest scoring player in the league deserves to be it's 3rd highest paid.
Also would appreciate if you refrain from telling me in your posts what I would and wouldn't want.

Has nothing to do with who deserves what. With the cap rising, It’s all about when you sign your contract. Snuggerud isn’t going to deserve to make more than Thomas but he’s going to, and likely quite a bit more. Bedard is getting paid because of who he is and what he can do.

There was a lot more to my argument that the misplaced word "deserves" that you chose to focus on.
I'm out. I've got one of you telling me what I want and I've got another trying to explain the salary cap to me when that wasn't even my argument.

This is the wrong way to think about contracts. But you hit on the right answer in your previous post. An nhl contract isn’t a reward for past performance. It’s a bet on future performance. The hawks are betting that Bedard will be worth 15 million per for the next 5 years. I’d wager they’re probably right.

He got that money because that’s the going rate for a player of his caliber. There is nothing to explain. Chicago probably saved a few mil because of the current injury

Or more likely Chicago got him to sign what ever because of the current injury.

I would not at all be ecstatic with that contract, so much so that if I were them I'd probably sooner trade him than sign it.
Chicago had little choice, but I don't see this aging well. I do not get or see why we have the Connor Bedard praise. He is constantly labeled as elite. He is the martyr for how poor the hawks are. I just look to Connor Bedard's possession metrics in the list of #1s.
This gets less attractive to use a real comparable. Try mapping CF% for Jack Eichel's to Connor Bedard in their early years. Eichel did more with far less in Buffalo.
