I don't even want to read the 4 pages of comments before I make my own.
Woke up early to see Sunny is signed. In surprise, I rushed to see who signed him. We did, to a 2 way deal?
Yes!!

Re: Sunny re-signed
This is what I'm thinking as well. They've managed to get him signed for all the intangibles he brings, with no rush to come back, without blocking anyone, and then when he does return (which could be sooner than we think), he adds to the competition in Springfield until we might need him for the playoffs with the Blues.leedog68 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 22:26 pm I don't think anyone here knows the extent of his knee injury. If he is out for an extended period, he gets sent down on paper but stays with his family here while he rehabs with the Blues people. If he gets healthy enough he plays in the AHL and helps out Ott. Transition......
Keep in mind, it was Barbs-Sunny-Steen that did some of the hardest work to win the Cup, starting every game and playing in key situations. Some may need a refresher, but Sunny is one of the smartest players and actually has a great shot and is a good passer. Here is Steen feeding him (fast-forwarding past some rippers earlier in the video) on a goal that started with Sunny winning the draw at center ice: https://youtu.be/up2XrzptPAw?si=1hBo1whTpMSJFnLh
I understand this is the Show-Me state, and we've now come 7 years since that video, but this is part of team building. It seems Steen and Army have recognized "being hard to play against" as the standout factor from the Cup team. I mean...Schwartz, ROR, Perron, 4th line, Bozak, etc.. Now, Steen is a guy who has popped in 30g by January, so let's not think he doesn't understand skill either. Sunny has an agreed-to role that will only benefit the team and the development of young players. LTIR until playoffs

Only if Sunny is healthy. That’s my biggest concern with him.
The signing as a whole doesn’t bother me much, because it’s low risk and the guy has been nothing but a warrior for us over his career.

Yeah not so sure about the "deal" ya'll are saying.
And I doubt Sunny has resigned himself to Springfield.
It's a two way and that's how it will play out...same for Sunny as any other player imo.

Re: Sunny re-signed
Far as this impacting the Nikishin move as rumored, only thing this does to impact that in my mind is potentially make it less likely. Blues have a little less cap now than they did before signing Sunny.
If the Canes are still insisting on any team taking Kotkaniemi in a Nikishin trade, just means the Blues must move out a little more money to make that happen. Canes don't want money back, so either the Blues don't take Kotkaniemi (who they don't want and don't need after adding all these other bottom 6 options) or the Blues got to move someone like Buch (or Suter and Torp, something like that) out to another team(s).
It's just getting a lot more complicated as the Blues keep adding other players for them to make a move like Nikishin.
At this point if it's Lindstein and a 1st for Nikishin, something like that, with no other money switching around, Blues can still pull that off easily. Once Kotkaniemi is involved it becomes a lot more involved. That's how I see it.

Re: Sunny re-signed
I think as the dust settles with some of the bigger fish, Larkin, Robertson etc...that some team with cap and a need for a player gets interested in either Buch or Suter. Assuming that doesn't happen my guess with the list above is that Sunny starts on LTIR rehabbing his knee, Walker is moved through waivers to the AHL and Stenberg and Carbs start in the AHL. The rest is your opening night roster.noted wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 23:52 pmHolloway Thomas SnuggySmith2Herr wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 22:23 pmPierre please explain how this move relates to Nikishin. Thanks
McMichael McTavish Buch
Jake Dvorsky Berggren
Torpo Suter Johnston
Walker Finley Dube
Sunny Stenberg Carbonneau
4 of these guys can’t be on team. Stenberg and Carbonneau can play in minors I guess but still…

Throw him a bone for loyalty and keeping him around. Leave him on the Vegas LTIR unless they absolutely need him.
It's a nice little golden parachute they gave to a good soldier. Plenty of cap space (even without LTIR). And he'll likely move into some sort of organizational spot later. Nothing negative about this at all.

Yep. Think this assessment is spot on. Seems to me the Blues aren’t anywhere close to thinking Stenberg and Carbs are ready for regular NHL action.UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2026 08:19 amI think as the dust settles with some of the bigger fish, Larkin, Robertson etc...that some team with cap and a need for a player gets interested in either Buch or Suter. Re: Sunny re-signed
Agree for the most part with all the posts quoted here. With regards to Stenberg, he did get 32 NHL games last season and didn’t look out of place. He only had 10 points, so definitely not a top 9 type player yet, but he killed penalties and showed to be a pretty smart player. He’s closer to being ready than being credit for, but they have definitely created competition. Carbs isn’t ready, and personally, I feel Dube and Sunny don’t make the big club either.Backesdraft wrote: ↑11 Jul 2026 09:10 amYep. Think this assessment is spot on. Re: Sunny re-signed
The thing about Dube making the club is he's a veteran who can sit some nights and it won't hurt his development. Johnston ain't going to play every game. Dube would seemingly add a little scoring punch to that 4th line with Suter. I think there's a decent chance he's forward 13 or 14.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2026 09:21 amAgree for the most part with all the posts quoted here. Re: Sunny re-signed
Your take makes sense re reinforcing close-to-ice mentoring & messaging in the young player development role; and it's similar to the Chris Thorburn last contract (not necessarily for pension reasons) valuing the intangibles influence.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 21:43 pm I just see this as Ott having a soldier to help teach the kids in the AHL. No way he has any chance to make this team.
And no disrespect Tim, but I have no idea how you are connecting this nothing-burger AHL signing to it meaning Nikishin is coming in??? Makes zero sense those two things are related.
Also, it is not fair to claim that Steen is prejudiced re Swedes. In any walk of life, people seek those with whom they have a familiarity either as individuals or the background they come from or for referrals. In business, Alumni are drawn to graduates of their school. Same with Medical organizations. Senior military commanders seek key staff members or unit sub-commanders through their prior commands or warfare community. Steen happens to have broad and deep connections from when he was our Scout in Sweden/Europe. He has them here too, plus a great Scouting staff.
