Winners and losers...with his winner who got nothing but league disruption and some kind of feel good effort while his "loser" got the money.
We should all be so lucky to lose.

Wysh is dead on, IMO. Briere is riding high, and doesn't have to actually pay put that contract. He screwed ANA and Cutter, while showing future free agents that he's willing to pay top dollar.
Not sure an 18M man can be a loser, but every mistake LC makes now will be weighed against the highest salary ever. Thats a LOT to live up to for someone so young, who hasn't even been an All Star.
I'm still bullish on the kid, but he now has zero margin for error and is on a team that cant afford his supporting cast (without shedding a few million at least).

Media and people’s desire to simp for billionaires is quite strong, even though it makes no sense.

I get making a move to better your club. But he did not succeed doing it (long shot at best) and HIS TEAM is still without the center they need but somehow he comes out a winner doing what any GM with cap room could have done if they wanted.Army's Mom wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 19:25 pm Wysh is dead on, IMO. So for this great GM...now what?
As far as cheering for the damage he did to each their own. I'm not cheering myself.
Verbeek is a whole 'nother matter.....he effed up big time.

I think of winning and losing in terms of whether he's any worse off.dhsux wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 07:20 amI get making a move to better your club. Verbeek, definitely worse off. Egg all over his face. No cap space left. Owner likely realizes he's paying double what he could have paid had Verbeek not been a neandertal.
Is Briere any worse off than he was before? Yeah, he still needs a 1C. But now I think he's established he's willing to get creative and pay top dollar to acquire talent. If anything, I bet the chances Fantilli or Bedard pick up when Briere calls just went way up.
That's why he's a winner.

I forget who it was but somebody who David Backes sought out for advice before signing that contract with Boston, this person told him “the money is great but the game will no longer be as fun for you to play”

I respect your opinion and we will see who picks up the phone for him. If he wants to overpay in a cap league it still doesn't make him a winner in my book.Army's Mom wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 11:51 amI think of winning and losing in terms of whether he's any worse off.dhsux wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 07:20 amI get making a move to better your club. And even by your own standards he hasn't won anything yet so........
