Wysh is dead on, IMO. Briere is riding high, and doesn't have to actually pay put that contract. He screwed ANA and Cutter, while showing future free agents that he's willing to pay top dollar.

Not sure an 18M man can be a loser, but every mistake LC makes now will be weighed against the highest salary ever. Thats a LOT to live up to for someone so young, who hasn't even been an All Star.

I'm still bullish on the kid, but he now has zero margin for error and is on a team that cant afford his supporting cast (without shedding a few million at least).

Verbeek, definitely worse off. Egg all over his face. No cap space left. Owner likely realizes he's paying double what he could have paid had Verbeek not been a neandertal.

Is Briere any worse off than he was before? Yeah, he still needs a 1C. But now I think he's established he's willing to get creative and pay top dollar to acquire talent. If anything, I bet the chances Fantilli or Bedard pick up when Briere calls just went way up.

That's why he's a winner.

I respect your opinion and we will see who picks up the phone for him. If he wants to overpay in a cap league it still doesn't make him a winner in my book.
