Another thing you would not think you need to do. I wasn't crazy about some of the decisions the Blues made but at least they were players and staff.

I'm not sure why this bothers me but it does. I think that was a disrespectful thing to do to the hockey world in general. Youre supposed to respect the Cup and those who earned the right to have their name on it. F' them kids!

According to Rivers on the Fast Lane yesterday, the NHL does not get a list of names prior to the engraving. At least one instance the HOF had the name of a person "Xed" out in the past. If true, it's time the NHL approves the list prior to the engraving.

But the Blues had to petition to get a player’s name added (Del Zotto) because he didn’t meet the eligibility requiremrnts; so now they just don’t care (owner and team) to abide by the rules?

Again, according to Rivers, there are certain requirements to being listed on the cup. Games played is one for instance. I think they said 41. If they don't make that number the owners can petition the league to have them included. But apparently due to time constraints, so everyone's day with the cup can begin, it's not proofed before being on the cup. I honestly don't see how the NHL decided to not check it before engraving begins but I don't know. It was suggested that some team personal and one player that didn't reach the minimum game threshold were left off so the kids could get on it.

This is dumb. Take a draft pick away or something. It’s one thing with the Panthers when they’re at least nominally part of the ownership group, but your kids?? Come on man. Leaving off the Equipment manager (who was on it in 2006) so you could get two full rows for family is stupid.

The NHL is still the only league where the trophy celebration goes right to the players, and it should stay that way. This feels like a step towards Bettman handing the cup to the owner first.
