This is not the first time this has happened and no last time it happened it still didn't become the norm.

Come on man.
I'm not saying that isn't possible. But to just say that like it's fact is not quite realistic.
Sure the possibility is there for a larger pay day, but what if it isn't there? What if his wrist snaps again? Has a sophomore slump?
If the blues go to him with a good respectable offer for a good length such as say 80/8 that's 80 freaking million dollars. Would you say no and take your chances that a team might throw an insane offer at you and that some 4th line goon doesn't elbow smash your face into the glass and you miss 40 games from a concussion?
Way too many variables out of their control when the one variable they can control, guaranteed money and a lot of it, is right there.

We shall see…I’ll be shocked if we get him signed for less than $12 mil per year. I believe he’s going to be the highest paid Blue in history a year from now.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:32 pmWhy gamble if you can have guaranteed money?Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:23 pmHe can pop in 25-30 goals and simply wait for an offer sheet. Oh I don't doubt that at all. I just don't see taking the chance of playing out seasons without guarantees when you can make generational money and ensure your life and I think most will still take that over gambling.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:39 pmWe shall see…I’ll be shocked if we get him signed for less than $12 mil per year. How in the world would we even begin to guess what Snuggerud will make until we see how he performs next year?
Dude could score anywhere from 50-100 points.

Re: Ducks match the offer sheet. Carlsson stays.
Unless someone mentioned it, Snuggerud can't be offer-sheeted until summer of 2028. It's going to be real interesting to see how next summer plays out with him being a RFA...it totally depends on this season.
Someone will make more than Thomas very soon...Snuggerud seems like the one that's in line for it.

I saw it was $12mil is what Leo and his agent wanted, then he got the $18mil per offer and him and his agent went back to the Ducks and told Verbeek they wanted $15mil per and Verbeek still said no..skilles wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:48 pmWhere is that info coming from?UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:47 pmBig difference between 8 and 15.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:23 pmHe can pop in 25-30 goals and simply wait for an offer sheet. He did an interview last summer with Elias Pettersson where they talked about all things hockey and they discussed Carlsson's future deal and he said "I’d take that, for sure" when EP suggested 9.5x8 years.
A few other reporters have also stated that he was willing to sign last summer for something around 12M. Verbeek really messed up.

Oh that is a little harsh, last summer he was coming off of a 45 point season. Nobody was giving him 12 million last summer and definitely not Army.bluetunehead wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:57 pmhttps://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/vanco ... hl-careersskilles wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:48 pmWhere is that info coming from?UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:47 pmBig difference between 8 and 15.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:23 pmHe can pop in 25-30 goals and simply wait for an offer sheet. Re: Ducks match the offer sheet. Carlsson stays.
Didn't really doubt that they would match but Verbeek really screwed his own team over. If Carlsson gave them a shot for something less than the offer sheet, then Verbeek needs to be fired immediately as that is inexcusable.
As for RFAs in the future, teams would be wise to ink their deals the summer before these top line/top pair guys are eligible for offer sheets. Probably the best deals they're going to get but for the love of God don't give these kids NTC/NMC. Pay them before they absolutely prove their worth but don't tie your hands if they don't meet the contracts value.

Well you can't just sign right up for 15 million just because someones agent tells you they have an offer for 18 million.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:54 pmI saw it was $12mil is what Leo and his agent wanted, then he got the $18mil per offer and him and his agent went back to the Ducks and told Verbeek they wanted $15mil per and Verbeek still said no..skilles wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:48 pmWhere is that info coming from?UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:47 pmBig difference between 8 and 15.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 12:23 pmHe can pop in 25-30 goals and simply wait for an offer sheet. I'm not trying to defend the Ducks but people are crazy if they think this same thing hasn't been left open by the Blues.

He's not a center. That's what makes Carlsson so valuable. Snuggerud will never be that. The wingers making over 10M have typically had 90 or 100 point seasons, in some cases repeatedly. The only two that don't are Dorofeyev and Tuch (the two most recent signees). I'm sure he will point to Dorofeyev's 11M as his comp, but that's a long way from 15M, and he's coming off 72 goals the last two years. I suspect Snuggerud comes in around 10M unless he is an absolute force out there this season.
