Not only that, but if your Guerin trading Boldy for Larkin completely defeats the purpose of trading for Larkin. You want Larkin with Boldy, trading one for the other is just a treading water trade for all intents and purposes.clemonsonroots wrote: ↑08 Jul 2026 16:40 pmYep. Yzerman named his price - he wants Boldy, or another similar player who can help his roster win now. If he let that leak, he's not about to turn around and accept Guerin's version of "Cole, Dags and a pick" - Wallstedt (Detroit already shipped out one goalie prospect, Cossa, because they have too many), Yurov, and a pick.

Well if he can't get a solid return, he needs to move some prospects and picks for some players.Army's Mom wrote: ↑08 Jul 2026 16:16 pmHow do you win games when the only teams on the trade list are offering table scraps for your #1 center?

If they don't resolve this before the season, he can't go into the year as your captain, right? Don't you have to take the C from him if he is actively revolting against the team?Army's Mom wrote: ↑08 Jul 2026 15:03 pm Per insider Helene St. James.

After 2 months, he's still at 3 teams he would approve to.
Yzerman is IMO calling his bluff - no way Larkin wants to come to camp as the guy demanding a trade. Either he'll hold out and forego his paycheck, or he'll blink and add teams at the last minute. Yzerman will be fired before he blinks.

At this point, you make an example of him and show his teammates that he could care less about them. He is done all he can to drive his price down- return the favor. Create a little moral hazard. And if does not show, don'tbpay him.

No, not necessarily. He's not revolting, he's asking for a trade. A trade is not a certainty. Unless he holds out my expectation would be he comes to play and plays to win. There is a rulebook in the NHL that determines which team you play for, collectively bargained. Larkin's reputation is on the line, bad character exhibited under these circumstances could and should cost him the C and also might keep him out of the HHOF, but that hasn't happened yet.General wrote: ↑08 Jul 2026 18:01 pmIf they don't resolve this before the season, he can't go into the year as your captain, right? Yzerman still holds the cards, however shaky that hand may be.

Larkin wasn’t HOF bound before this, and I think he likely lost the C already.DawgDad wrote: ↑08 Jul 2026 18:27 pmNo, not necessarily. He's not revolting, he's asking for a trade. IMO most hockey players are standup Dudes who will be looking at Larkin as if he is in the wrong. You signed a contract, you're our Captain, now go out do what you're supposed to do. I'm betting Yzerman is counting on that to motivate him to be a solid player AND extend that list of teams, because he's GOT to get a package that gives them a chance to replace what they are losing.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑08 Jul 2026 15:48 pmOn the flip side, if you’re Yzerman do you really want this mess in your locker room at the start with your job likely on the line next season?Hockey Pete wrote: ↑08 Jul 2026 15:37 pm Larkin's going nowhere as Stevie has all the leverage. He's signed for another 4-5 seasons, and if he doesn't show up, he won't get paid. Now he could just tank it on purpose, but that's NOT going to endear him to a future team. That, and this will be his last NHL contract.
When he expands his list, he'll get his trade.
With that said, this has been one heck of a drama filled offseason. As I always tell my wife…the NHL is my soap opera.

This, to an extent. Some players may side with Larkin simply because they believe they deserve more freedom of choice in movement.Hockey Pete wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 09:29 amIMO most hockey players are standup Dudes who will be looking at Larkin as if he is in the wrong. Yzerman still holds the cards. If Larkin holds out so be it, if he holds out for five seasons he's committing career suicide. If he shows up and dogs it cut his minutes, healthy scratch him if need be. Stand firm for a fair return in a trade. Larkin has reportedly turned down a viable trade to a team not on his list, he cannot force a team to trade for him nor can he force Detroit to make a trade they don't want to make. He has REQUESTED a trade, that is really all he can do.

Not sure that is the standard anymore. The new faction as with Team USA believes this is the new way to get what they want. He’s got a lot guys behind him and supporting him. I will be interested to see how long Yzerman holds out…my guess is he caves before Thanksgiving at the latest…probably much sooner in all likelihood. Sounds to me like Larkin specifically wants Minnesota, so even if he expands the list to say, a couple more teams, if you’re the GM of those teams, are you willing to give up a lot when it sure sounds like he wants to be in Minnesota with Quinn and likely Jack down the road as well. The times are a changing for sure. The NHL is going to have to prohibit NMC’s somehow, otherwise the players are gonna make all the decisions.Hockey Pete wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 09:29 amIMO most hockey players are standup Dudes who will be looking at Larkin as if he is in the wrong. I do also wonder if Yzerman is also a bit too old school (someone else posted in the other thread how everyone walks on eggshells around him in Det), but in the end they'll lead him to the same result - wait until training camp, when Larkin is forced to either report or hold out.

He may have a lot of support from his Team USA buddies, but that won't do him a whole lot of good in the Detroit locker room. And, as much as American players may support such "individualism", that's only 30% of the player population. Meanwhile, 32 owners will be on Yzerman's side, hoping he doesn't cave.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 10:00 amNot sure that is the standard anymore. To the point of what other teams may be offering, if Guerin knows Larkin is bent on MN, why would he offer anything close to fair value?
For me, this is a question of who blinks first - 32 owners and HOFer Yzerman on one side, and Dylan Larkin and the new Team USA blood on the other. I'll take Yzerman every day in that challenge.

I bet he did, at least somewhat.
That is the dumbest part of this Larkin deal though. It was in none of their best interest to ever leak that he only approved 3 teams and who those teams are. Just stupid

skilles, you are a heck of a poster, but why think any of that is truly true? I've not recorded data on the reliability of "sources" and "rumors" or "posters," but I'd wager that 90 percent is distant from reality.

Dead on balls accurate, and IMO greatly impacts the NHLPA's position moving forward.Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 10:00 amNot sure that is the standard anymore. If this goes ugly, I fully expect the owners to address the No Movement/No trade clauses as the franchises can't build teams if their star players can dictate movement AFTER they sign a contract. Yes the Wings put themselves in this situation by giving Larkin that contract, but in reality that clause was given to him to demonstrate the teams commitment to him, not for him to initiate/dictate a trade to a specific team...
Interesting times ahead...
