Larkin still at 3 teams

Post by Army's Mom »

Per insider Helene St. James.

https://x.com/HeleneStJames/status/2074 ... de-list%2F

After 2 months, he's still at 3 teams he would approve to.

Yzerman is IMO calling his bluff - no way Larkin wants to come to camp as the guy demanding a trade. Either he'll hold out and forego his paycheck, or he'll blink and add teams at the last minute. Yzerman will be fired before he blinks.

Not a Stevie Y fan really but man alive it’s hard to like Larkin through all this. He seems like such an entitled [ablution]. I’m sure there is more going behind the scenes but the optics aren’t doing him any favors.

Larkin's going nowhere as Stevie has all the leverage. He's signed for another 4-5 seasons, and if he doesn't show up, he won't get paid. Now he could just tank it on purpose, but that's NOT going to endear him to a future team. That, and this will be his last NHL contract.

When he expands his list, he'll get his trade.

Exactly. Larkin has zero leverage here and somebody needs to step up and make an example of one of these guys demanding trades. Let it be the DeadWings.

On the flip side, if you’re Yzerman do you really want this mess in your locker room at the start with your job likely on the line next season?
With that said, this has been one heck of a drama filled offseason. As I always tell my wife…the NHL is my soap opera.

Yes Stevie can force his hand and make his point but do you want a captain on your team who doesn't want to be there?

But it's even more preposterous for Larkin to not budge and not give him more room to make a deal. There's no way I'd take less for my team to satisfy a disgruntled player.

Players usually get what they want in the end.

I think the only way for Yzerman to save face here is to give Larkin what he wants - a good team - and let winning solve the problems.

As much as Yzerman may not want the distraction in the Detroit locker room, I think he's betting Larkin wants to be IN that locker room even less. If Larkin holds out, then he becomes the scapegoat (he already is), and the team can rally around his absence. JMO.

Admittedly, Drouin wasn't his captain, but Yzerman showed he's more than willing to let a player hang with an unmet trade demand just sitting out there. He's not one to cave. And, in Detroit, I doubt he's getting fired.

How do you win games when the only teams on the trade list are offering table scraps for your #1 center?

Yzerman named his price - he wants Boldy, or another similar player who can help his roster win now. If he let that leak, he's not about to turn around and accept Guerin's version of "Cole, Dags and a pick" - Wallstedt (Detroit already shipped out one goalie prospect, Cossa, because they have too many), Yurov, and a pick.

Tarasenko put up the best points total of his career the season after demanding a trade and talking [shirt] about the team medical staff.

Yurov is a good player, take Yurov, a prospect like Riley Heidt and pick and end it. Guerin would pay that but asking for Boldy is beyond ridiculous, Boldy is a much better player than Larkin.

Yep. I like Larkin as a player a lot, but I wouldnt trade boldy for him even if this wasn't the situation.

I agree on Boldy. But Yurov, Heidt and a pick doesn't really improve the on ice product.
