What an absolute [shirt] show. One can be legitimately upset about the Balogun red card but so can most teams about on field discipline ( See Olise and the ridiculous yellow card against Paraguay). Belgium had a defender red carded in the Switzerland game who missed their final group stage game. Did they complain about that and appeal for the ban to be delayed ? Does England now get the same treatment for Quansah's red card ? Infantino is such a corrupt [fork]. Let's change the rules at the behest of the host nation.

I'm trying to find the asterisk next to Argentina in the record books for "The Hand of God" and am having trouble finding it

Can you help me out ?

Look over there at THOSE guys. Got it. WE couldn't help ourselves, we simply HAD to bribe/importune/lean on FIFA. Because 'everyone does it', or 'they let you do it', eh ? You should have mentioned Ronaldo, a much more pertinent point of comparison. But that one wasn't on us, either. This one is.

Has anyone forgotten that play, btw ? Isn't it notorious ? There is def. an asterisk by that victory. That's a blown call in the moment, anyway. But your attempt at obfuscation is dully noted.

I suppose red cards now don't mean what they did from forever, until a few weeks ago. We should start calling them pink.

Do you have any evidence of it ?

Is there an asterisk next to one of the stars on their jerseys?

lol @ this being the last straw when it comes to corruption in FIFA. Welcome to the party pal.

I don't give a squat based on Messi doing the same thing but worse and not even getting a caution.

There was a misapplication of the VAR rules. It was noticed after the fact, delt with and corrected.

The fact that you can even get kicked out of a game AND miss a game for accidentally stepping on someone when you're running full speed is a joke

We know FIFA is corrupt. We know the political persuasion to get this overturned was corrupt.

As a fan of the US team, I wish either the manager would sit the player, or the player would sit himself for this one game. It would just "feel better" win or lose and be a very teachable moment to everyone worldwide that there are still Americans who choose to serve their penances, regardless if it was a good call or not. This tournament could yet still be remembered in a positive way, rather the extreme negative way it is currently viewed.

Extremely negative ??? Ridiculous called. He said get that puck nugget off my lawn.

I'm watching Ronaldo play right now. One of the things I'm going to remember about this tournament is seeing him score in his 6th World Cup. I've already forgotten about the fact his suspension was suspended, so he could accomplish that feat

It has always been an integral feature of fifa. At the 1966 WC, the then English FIFA director at the last minute moved the semifinal between Portugal and England from Goodison Park (everton's old grounds) to wembley for [nonsense] financial reasons causing the Portugese to travel overnight to London at the last minute. Not a coincidence that the English won their only wc on home soul and have not been to a final since. How about in 1978 with peru laying down to argentina losing 6-0 so argentina could make up a 4 goal goal differential over Brasil to go the final. Widely understood to be engineered by host and ruling argentine junta. Fifa's response - nothing to see here. Home cooking for the hosts. This is just the current iteration.

Now I remember the last time they played - it was almost impossible to tell which team was which because the jerseys were both similar colors

Had trump kept his mouth shut and not interfered..the US team might have had better results. Given everything that happened
I think Belgium came out extremely motivated.

He had the classiest reaction possible...

"First and foremost, it was totally unintentional, which I'm sure a lot of people know. But, you know, I think the choice of the referee was, of course, his choice, but I don't think it was the correct call," he told reporters on Friday. "I think a yellow card would have been fair due to it not being intentional. There's not many places I can place my foot in such a scenario. But it's happened, and it's something that I have to accept and move forward from."

"There’s been lots of different emotions. I’ve been upset, I’ve been happy, it’s been surreal to be honest," he added. "But for me it was just important to stay calm. I never want to react out of anger and emotion. There’s still lots of people we’re inspiring. Little kids, boys and girls are watching. We have to show them the correct way to handle things even when you think it’s unjust, so I felt I did that. I’m happy with the support, not just I’m receiving but the team. I think we’re all looking forward to seeing what we can do against Belgium."

Now instead of looking back at this response and honoring the guy he's stuck in a fubar situation because of politics.....it was a teachable moment out the window while making the USA look like spoiled babies. I blame Poch for thinking that starting him would be a good idea - that Belgium team was p o'd

Balogun has nothing to worry about at all.

He had nothing to do with the red card being rescinded.
