Is Balogun out for the USA vs. Belgium match?

Post by craviduce »

That's my understanding, unless the rules have changed...or I have forgotten all soccer knowledge from my youth.

Scores, then Red Card ....sigh

Yup, he won't be available vs. Belgium.

Good news: US's win against Bosnia was the team's first against a European side in 5 years.

Bad news: Belgium drilled the US in a friendly earlier this year, 5-2

Team will need to elevate their game in order to get past Belgium.....so they can then lose to Spain.

Is the suspension for one game, or the rest of the tournament ?

Just the next game versus Belgium. FIFA does have the ability to extend a red card suspension to multiple games if, for instance, someone was out there deliberately trying to injure other players, but that's not the case with Balogun.

I have seen several reports that there might be a chance for an appeal?

Belgium DID NOT look good yesterday.

Will be the first game for the US in this World Cup where they've faced a higher-ranked opponent. If, by some chance, they're able to get by Belgium, Spain will be waiting.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal might have something to say about that.

If it is Spain, so be it. The US beat Spain in the Confederations Cup in 2009.

There are no easy games left.

How can this be?

You mentioned three weeks ago that USA was only third best in our group and would need a few breaks to make the knockout stage.

The FIFA bribe bank is open on Sunday as they rescind Balogun's red card. He'll play against Belgium. The U.S.'s chances of winning the match just increased to 15%

I still don't think the US are beating Belgium but they just made themselves the villains of the tournament. Rest of the world will now be waiting for them to get knocked out.

there's a swath of internet fans out there looking beyond Belgium to Spain...I'm laughing my head off on that one....sure, anything can happen, but this the same US team that played like (donkey) for the better part of 2 years heading into the WC. I've loved the run they've been on, but Belgium is very good team.

Maybe we can pull it off, it'll be very tough...I hope US keeps aggressive

Those are obviously odds that you created.

Since that's the case, I would love to get some USA action on that. Send a PM with how much you'll take.

15% equates to roughly +600. Let me know.

Rules schmules. This puts an asterisk by anything the USMNT achieves further. For those to whom winning square matters, anyway.
