Connor Bedard

Post by pucknugget »

Bedard is currently a RFA.

An offer sheet over $11.939 million would require 4 1sts in return if not matched.

Just starting a discussion whether this would be something STL would be thinking about. I see a few reasons why this would be a nice fit right now with STL, and ultimately it forces Chicago into making a long-term decision one way or the other in the next 7 days. Would they possible every consider not matching?

If the Blues were in on Robertson at $15, what offer would Bedard command to make Chicago pause?

No. Chicago has plenty of cap space it would just be a waste of time unless Bedard is actually unhappy.

It would also invite potential retaliation as the Hawks would be primed to be able to do it. Match our Bedard offer but then go and offer sheet McMichael or Snuggy a year from now.

Just not a good idea.

Agreed. Three reasons this is a terrible idea:

1. Ineffective. They're loaded with space and will match anything. I'm not sure there's an individual-cap-compliant figure they would balk at.

2. Retaliation. We don't need more teams (governors) upset with us. We're young and will have several opportunities for other teams to pay us back, no need to poke proverbial bears.

3. Astronomical. They're saying Makar could command $20M. I've got to think Bedard expects to emerge as one of the five best players over the course of his next contract, and will want to be paid similarly. For Chicago to think twice, you'd likely have to go north of $20M - if you even can (what is the individual limit, 20% of the annual cap?).

No way.

Army pretty much dismissed this rumor. He didn't specifically say Robertson, but it seemed clear he was talking about Jim Nill and the Robertson situation.

The Hawks can and would match anything. Waste of time.

I'm guessing Chicago will want to offer a longer term contract right about now?

I wouldn't think they would want a bridge. But I'm not sure about what Bedard would want?

Will this team ever get off the mat?

Yes, the max is 20%. The Cap is currently at $104M so the individual max would be $20.8M.

No player has ever gotten the max.

God I hope not. Their fanbase got enough, let them wait a couple more decades.

In all seriousness though, the video there didn’t look good. Looks like he caught an edge and fell on his own into the boards, adding awkwardly on his shoulder.
