I'm good with using one mid first on a guy who two years ago had 52 points and 52% faceoffs. Who by the way has a contract.
And is still only 23.
He was a healthy scratch in the playoffs. Why?
Poor defensive play.

Nobody's saying he doesn't have some warts.
But 23 year old center's with decent size, proven 50+ point skill and a moderately long term deal don't hit the market very often. I'm not willing to pay an absolute premium for him; but 15 or 16 and some of our spare depth pieces isn't what I'd consider a "premium". And he could be a really good fit here given that we could shelter him in terms of defensive responsibility with Buch.
#15 or #16 in the 1st rnd + is a premium get for Anaheim why spend that kind of capital for a guys that's likely a 3rd liner and again maybe not a center? I get it there is potential there is too much risk are we saying this is the only center we can land this summer?
What other center's are available?

We're not on Dylan Larkin's list.
We want no part of Elias Petersson.
NJ isn't shopping Hischier that we've heard of.

The only other center I've seen on the block is JT Compher. And I MUCH prefer MacTavish to Compher.

I never heard anyone say he was out of shape. He bulked up with a bunch of muscle and lost a step is what I heard

That’s what I had heard too. Did almost too much in the off season it sounds like. Having said that I have questions about him being a Center, though.

Well, I have been trying to find where I read that and can't find it.
So.... But I just didn't make it up. That doesn't make it true, though.

The tweet out there from I think Lebrun said that the Blues tried to get Robertson, got told he wouldn't sign, then pivoted to McTavish but we're also still in the market for a top 6 winger in addition to McTavish and that there a lot of moving parts.

Who would that top 6 winger be? Boesser? He's available but doesn't fit the age range. He does have a decent contract. Barzal is another name that comes to mind.

Might have to wake up and find out

There's a bit of noise about teams calling on Debrincat.

Dvorsky just turned 21
Have the Blues brass decided he's not a center?
If not, let the kid play and develop.

Everyone complains about Dvo's foot speed.
We're going take on another slow player in McTavish and perhaps give up more than the Habs gave up for a RHD (Dobson) that plays in all situations and all the ice time you give him?

I might be persuaded to give up 16 & 29 for McT but I'm keeping 11 & 15 unless we get a proven young stud.
McTavish is no stud and perhaps not a center.
I just don't see much more upside in McTavish.
What you see from him now, is what you're getting. Nothing more, maybe less.

Let another team overpay.

Here is what Elliot Friedman is reporting.

This would be a HELL no from me, btw.
Thomas Welch
@twelcher15
.
@FriedgeHNIC reporting that he thinks a key part of the Blues offer is the 11th overall pick

Would you trade:

11th overall

For

McTavish
2027 2nd Round (Blues)?

Holding out any commentary until we know something.

Id be all right with 11 for McTavish and our 2027 2nd back. I'd rather be shipping them something else in addition that we don't want, like Drouin.

I'll withhold judgement until we have details.
