When he uses excuses nootbaar was playing hurt.He ain’t that good and other than the excitement of everyone saying Nooooooooot his playing don’t excite me.
Maybe I'm stupid, but I actually like Noot! He's got a little pop, runs the bases well, plays solid D and has a decent OBP. Works for me.....but then again.....who the heck am I?
Yep, I agree. But as they say the proof is in the pudding. We shall see.
I'm excited to have him back and playing for us.

I think it comes down to whether you want to focus on what Nootbaar, at his best, might be, or what he probably isn't.
At the best we have seen, he's a good all-around OF. Gets on base well, hits for some power (15-20 HRs a year), plays a pretty average CF (-2 DRS in 852 IP), etc. As noted before, for 2022-2024, he was a solidly above average player based on his 3.5 fWAR per 600 PA. There should be a place for a guy like that on almost every team.
Is he going to be a 30+ HR corner OF if he plays everyday? Probably not.
Is he going to be a GG defensive OF in CF (or LF)? Probably not.

Quite possibly Walker, Baez, Nootbaar/? platoon over the longer term going forward. Might give up a bit on defense in CF, but you would probably live with it if all are as good offensively as they could be.
Given the bat J. Baez (likely) brings, I'd gladly give up the couple plays a month VSII might make in CF that Baez couldn't any day.
That said, I'd be surprised (but not upset) if Noot isn't traded.

Noot will be our 2nd best outfielder when he returns.
Yawn. I literally don't know anyone that said Noot is the answer. He is an upgrade over anyone but Walker in the outfield and his limited production shows that.

As with most of the players for 2026, the Cardinals are still evaluating what they have in Nootbaar.
For three seasons from 2022-2024, Nootbaar hit .246/.351/.426 (.777 OPS), for a wRC+ of 118 (18% above league average) over 1255 PA. He totaled 7.4 fWAR or 3.5 fWAR per 600 PA, which is a very good rate of production.
He was injured in 2025.
Now the Cardinals need to see him back and healthy to judge what place he has on this team going forward.
600 PAs? Dream land.
The 3.5 fWAR per 600 PA rate would mean that, at the very least, he would be a valuable LH hitting part of a platoon where he gets ~450 PA a year or so.
Do you think there is any real chance that they will extend Nootbaar?

Why do you say “at his best….15-20 HR a year”? That statement has no basis in fact because he has never hit even 15 HR in a season.
Maybe you meant per the rare, elusive, and as yet unattained 600 PA in a year for the overhyped, underperforming Noot.

He hit 14 HRs in 347 PA playing in 108 games in 2022.
He hit 12 HRs in 405 PA playing in 109 games in 2024.
He hit 14 HRs in 503 PA playing in 117 games in 2023.
If healthy over a 162-game season, it's not hard to see him hitting 15-20 HR.

If not (and they won’t) get him out of here asap.
Like with all of what this season is about, I think the Cardinals need to use the rest of this season to evaluate Nootbaar after he, hopefully, comes back healthy.
If he comes back looking like the player he was from 2022-2024, I would think about trying to sign him for something like 2 years + a team option for 2029. That would keep him with team through his age 30 or age 31 season.

The Noot fascination amuses me that it still exists after all these years of mediocre performance. Glove ain't good enough for CF, bat ain't good enough for corner OF. He should have zero future here on a team that is still too LH. I hope they let him play enough just to build trade value. And admittedly, he's better than Saggese or some of the other nobodies they've run out there in LF. For now.
Indeed.
Gifted a job he never earned.
Proclaimed a core player by Super Slo Mo purely for marketing purposes.
Lars The Human Sushi-baar - always leaving an empty feeling.
Not very bright and terrible at fundamentals.
Good at drawing walks and then standing around while others do the real work.
The day he is back in the line-up, the team is worse.
The day he gets traded, the team is better.
Took less than an inning for Mootbaar to prove my point.
As certain as sunrise
Amazing how good I am at this stuff.

What was your point? Keep telling people how good you are and some will eventually believe it. Repeat the lie.
