The Noot fascination amuses me that it still exists after all these years of mediocre performance. Glove ain't good enough for CF, bat ain't good enough for corner OF. He should have zero future here on a team that is still too LH. I hope they let him play enough just to build trade value. And admittedly, he's better than Saggese or some of the other nobodies they've run out there in LF. For now.

I have always said, Noot is a good 4th OFer on a good team. Can fill in all 3 spots and won't embarrass himself. However, you are correct that he doesn't have near the bat for corner OF and his defense in CF, though passable, is probably not what you wamt from a starter. Solid MLBer, but nothing special.
His smile, energy, and last name have definitely kept him around probably longer than deserved.

i didmt think noot was the answer but now im having my doubts and think he might be cuz youre usually wrong about everything you say.
noot is an average offensive player when healthy. scott and saggese are ridiculously below average bats- among worst in league. noot is an improvement over them
I see it as they have nothing to lose by playing him:
1) Think about who he is replacing(production wise)
2) He is under team control for 2 more seasons I believe?
3) Hopefully he at least raises his trade value? And since that is pretty low it can’t hurt.
4) Who knows? Maybe the heel issue was a factor and he will prove it?
Again nothing to lose and it’s not like he’s replacing Brock or Holiday in LF.
He’s a FA after 2027.
Play him long enough to trade him.
They will not extend him, move him asap.
5 years wasted on him.
He will be gone at the deadline
Better late than never.
Of course, I was the only person on the planet to correctly advise moving him 4 years ago while his value was artificially inflated.

For three seasons from 2022-2024, Nootbaar hit .246/.351/.426 (.777 OPS), for a wRC+ of 118 (18% above league average) over 1255 PA. He totaled 7.4 fWAR or 3.5 fWAR per 600 PA, which is a very good rate of production.
He was injured in 2025.
Now the Cardinals need to see him back and healthy to judge what place he has on this team going forward.

The 3.5 fWAR per 600 PA rate would mean that, at the very least, he would be a valuable LH hitting part of a platoon where he gets ~450 PA a year or so.

Trade is the most likely scenario.
I suppose he could surprise?
I fully expect Nootbaar who has been one long injury laden disappointment in St. Louis, to become a good player after he becomes a FA.
But enough time and patience has been spent on him in STL.
To me he is representative of a time in Cardinals history I’d like to forget.
All jmo.
He has been a tease with his injuries and roller coaster production.He should get PT and take it from there.
If a good deal pops up at the deadline act on it.
More than likely he would be moved offseason.
Now that this is a young team and some of the 'supposed' veteran team leaders are gone Noot may shine on this team.

Hopefully not here as this team needs another RH power hitting OF. Baez is it, I hope. Noot can be traded.
Quite possibly Walker, Baez, Nootbaar/? platoon over the longer term going forward. Might give up a bit on defense in CF, but you would probably live with it if all are as good offensively as they could be.

Maybe I'm stupid, but I actually like Noot! He's got a little pop, runs the bases well, plays solid D and has a decent OBP. Works for me.....but then again.....who the heck am I?
