The short answer is no. Cootes is their only legit center prospect currently. They have some depth at the NHL level, but no stars. Getting them to give up Cootes is likely going to be tough. But they need really good players at every single position…so taking Ivar if he’s there at 3 over Malhotra is better for them in the long run. Maybe we’ll be able to sweeten the pot enough to make it work? Say Otto and Ralph (we’re deep in LD prospects too).2forDiving wrote: ↑14 May 2026 20:14 pm Does Vancouver have centers to spare? Most mock drafts I see have them taking Malhotra or in some cases Bjorck. I’ve seen Stenberg dropping to Chicago in many of the mocks.
Are the Blues better with this trade proposal?

My premise was based on Vancouver wanting to have both Stenbergs enough that they would trade Cootes based on the Sedin brother's wanting to make a big splash as new hockey operations presidents. They don't have centers to spare, but they have to pick their poison.

Is Cootes worth adding pick 31? I honestly don't enough about his potential other than looking at his stats. Has anyone seen his live play? I think you are right about leverage though. Maybe that brother combo is just too much for them to miss out on. Or they could be patient and add him a few years down the road after Otto is a little bit more polished and closer to making real money.hockey jedi wrote: ↑14 May 2026 23:14 pm My premise was based on Vancouver wanting to have both Stenbergs enough that they would trade Cootes based on the Sedin brother's wanting to make a big splash as new hockey operations presidents. TBH, I probably prefer Otto slightly to Cootes so no, I absolutely wouldn’t add the late 1st as well. Cootes plays the more desirable position but I see a likely bottom-6 C in him. I see more of a likely middle-6 winger in Otto. And one that’s a buzzsaw, good in front of the net, along the boards and absolute pain in the A to play against.zuck698 wrote: ↑15 May 2026 00:02 amIs Cootes worth adding pick 31? That's a real good point. I was reading that he might by more middle six type. I was hoping he might blossom into an 80 point 2C or 50-60 3C. However, I believe Otto will be a 50 point player.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑15 May 2026 00:43 amTBH, I probably prefer Otto slightly to Cootes so no, I absolutely wouldn’t add the late 1st as well. I think some probably see Cootes as a potential 2C but I just don’t think his offense will develop enough for that to happen. It could though. He’ll be easier to project a year from now once he has a year of pro experience under his belt (assuming he either makes the Canucks or they’re able to palace him in the AHL as a 19 yr old).hockey jedi wrote: ↑15 May 2026 01:48 amThat's a real good point.
