This thread is making me realize that we’re surrounded by good people here and I’m legitimately embarrassed at how I’ve reacted to certain people over the years because of a sport. We’re all here because we’re fans with a lot more in common than not.

Looking at that old thread that was posted, I saw the signature of Snoopy wrapping tape on his hockey stick. I always really liked that one. Just-n-Opinion was the username.

I was mostly happy with the Blues, until they got rid of Petro, and then decided to take cash from the NHL in exchange for the Blues never drafting high. So I didn't frequent BluesTalk much.

Prior to 2019, I was on CurrentAffairs and RamsTalk. I remember some of the usernames from back then. We had Kroenke, Bradford, Hillary, and Trump. It was barnburners every day, and I liked to sway opinion in those arenas too. Seems like 50 years ago now.

Nuns at my grade school would make us whack our own knuckles with the metal-strip side of the old wooden rulers. No wonder I'm still messed up in the head.

I was definitely near the top of Mother Superior's list of trouble makers, and to be honest I was probably paddled a few more times than most (OK, I was), but in my older years I realized two things about Catholic school...

I went to a public high school and the chaos in between class was awesome and exciting, but academically I was far and ahead of almost everyone else in my classes (and I was above average at the parish school). In public school half the kids just tuned out the teacher during class and a lot of teachers didn't really care, compared to every kid facing forward (or else) and knocking out the work assigned, and those Nun's were laser focused on EVERYONE completing the assignment.

Second, military training was a breeze for me, as the structure, expectations and consequences for failing were pretty much the same as my junior high level at Catholic school. I learned (taught) at 12 years old that putting all efforts into focusing on the task at hand before moving on is how obstacles are overcome, and failures are only failures if you don't learn from them and succeed. As much as those Penguins gave me hell, there's no way I get thru SF training (hell life) without them.

I think we need a bit more of that in society today...

This is a great thread. Lots of nostalgia for sure. I've been coming to this forum, or some form of the PD forums, since 1999. Back when people had a hard time remembering the difference between Barret Jackman and Christian Backman (which was the defensive minded/offensive minded). I remember all of the names mentioned so far in this thread. RobbK,PleauMustGo, Battra, BillyP, the trolls; all of them. This place is not as nuts as it used to be for sure.

I never played growing up (Dad thought it was too expensive) but loved playing street hockey almost daily in the fall and winter months after school. I don't know the intricacies of the game like many on here, so I don't post much. But I love the Blues and learn a lot about the game and the team from all of you on here.

To all of you who post regularly now and over the years, I want to say thanks. I've been gone from the STL for almost 28 years and you all are my lifeline for Blues talk. Can't wait for things to pick up again in a few weeks with the draft and trades.

About the same time for me Webb. I can't believe it will be coming up on 30 years! This is a great thread and thanks for so many great memories it has uncovered. LGB

Foofighter was a good poster but he died several years back.

Foofighter was genuinely a great guy. Went to several Peoria Rivermen games with him and Billy Pilgrim and met for dinner out before attending the game. Foo played some time on the Kansas City Blades in his younger years. Very good guy.

Verson was NOT bleedr boy. Gordie who no longer posts, Verson and I met at Maggie O'Brien's before a Blues game one time. Verson was a bit odd, had some family issues, but really again.... seemed like a good fellow. Gordie was a little on the older side had some mobility/health issues; I hope he's doing well.

ah yes. Battra is another good one as some folks have mentioned. And yes, the mystery man Siberian Tiger, forgot about him.

Separately...count me as one of those who's also a little surprised that Seattle is banned. Could he be a little prickly sometimes, maybe? But in the grand scheme of things it seems a little excessive for him to be banned. Good poster, he's probably watching those Thunderbirds games and would have good insight.

Battra was a great poster. Was Nighthawk on here or the Cards board?

Battra was perhaps the most congenial posters in here ever. I don’t think we aligned politically based on some of his posts, but he made his points if he disagreed with you in a very fair manner. And if you disagreed with him he responded in a very polite way as well. He knew his hockey. Always respected his posts. Glad to read he is doing well.

I knew battra from the River Otter days. Was a huge music fan and game worn jersey collector. Had dinner with him and the fam before Rivermen games in Peoria. Very smart guy, opinionated and cordial.

When you actually meet other posters in person, it's amazing how we all get along and it brings a little more personality to an anonymous message board. I've had the opportunity to meet many... as mentioned battra, foofighter, Billy Pilgrim, Russdv14, Aesa, Gordie, Verson... and several others.

Great thread. And yes, great memories.
I've been on these boards since about 1998 when I moved away from St. Louis. It was so great of a way to keep up with the Blues, a lifeline as you say. Back then it was called Postnet.

Oh, and the pictures are great. What memories!
