I dont believe he will but if he does I could see Carolina and Florida as good fits.

What could then return be?
No.
We now have him on a one-year contract. He's an experienced proven big-game goalie. We now have a good tandem. IF the Blues appear to not be realistically in the run for the Cup next Spring, then trade him to a desperate contender at the Deadline and get as much as you can....And then re-sign him as a UFA in the Summer for a lesser salary as discussed before. Let him know ahead of time what the intention is. He is not dumb, he knows he needs to share the time with a likely lesser amount of play. He also knows that could extend his career, so more time at lesser $ = less time at more $.
And don't forget there is always a possibility of injury to Hofer. Whom do you turn to then if you trade him now??
It's not like the Blues are intentionally trying to lose for a rebuild, with no hope for Binnington to ever be part of winning again. Binnington is valuable for many intangible reasons as well. Being here for a few more years is a good fit for him and for the Blues.
Pretty much agree with a caveat.

If JB is told he's #2 and wants out, all bets are off I think the Blues reluctantly oblige.

However I would think the Blues would say it's open competition on a continuing basis with these two.

But to put a 2nd or 3rd on his value, which may well be right I don't know, is to say to keep him right where he is imo.
Yea, if he is adamant about being a #1 still, then they’ll have to try to work out a trade, if nothing else for the respect he’s earned bein a huge part of the Blues only Cup team. Id just be paticular about the timing and try to make someone (cough)Edmonton(cough) give up a 1st for him, even if it isn’t till 28’.

Not sure what it’d matter, but he’ll probably have a good season this year since he sucked last year, that and it bein his walk year so he’ll be motivated.

For now I believe Binny will pretty much controll his fate. Because I believe the Blues organization will respect his wishes. He's still good enough, and he's one that could still have a fantastic rebound.

I totally agree on the chances for his fantastic rebound Dave. I love the thought on keeping him for a ton of reasons but I truly believe he will be the man one day again for some team and dam it's going to hurt if it isn't the Blues.

Some of my optimism is tied to his "big game" play and once in, brother that's all that matters you can forget "regular season" and secondly just the way he came up and won.....I can see him going out on a similar projectory.

Use the cap space for who exactly?
The RFA this year are trash. If you want to wait until next years crop...Binner is already gone with an expiring contract by then.
By trade not FA. A 2C and a top pair offensive D away and we’re competitive again. Use the assets.

Again, you said “to dump the salary”.
Dumping salary does nothing for this team this season.
Next season, Binner is gone. So dumping him to save money for chit free agents this year makes no sense.
If you want to deal him for assets (for example, draft picks), fine. But to dump him just to create cap space makes no sense.
This years free agent clash is awful. Worst class in years.
