With Bake McBride in center, Lou in left, Reggie in right, Ted behind the plate and Keith at first, how did we not win at least one of those years? Pitching was not good is mainly the answer. Those teams were still fun to watch, even if we didn't win more.11WSChamps wrote: ↑18 Feb 2026 21:00 pmWatching Ted Simmons made it worth watching.Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑18 Feb 2026 17:45 pmDid you enjoy the 70’s as much as I did? Not a joke at all.Cardly wrote: ↑17 Feb 2026 20:09 pm For the past 2 seasons we were told Gorman had runway and we had to see what he had. What’s different this season? He is not good

Why did they not improve their big league roster during this past winter? This season is a wasted year with a PR joke telling us they have to see what they have. We already did that. It is not good!
My guess is that the record will be 62 wins and 100 loses.

Re: Does the 2026season seem like a joke?
I did. And I know what you mean. The 70s were my turn years. Could not wait until the Cards played the Mets, or when I was lucky enough that the Cards were on the saturdsy NBC game of the week. My favorite players were Brock and Rietz. Team didn't sniff the playoffs in the 70s, but it was still cardinal baseball. Never even considered a boycott. Then things started looking up in the late 70s with the arrival of Simmons, Hernandez and Templeton, and I've got that same feeling this year. Looking forward to the new regime, and new young players. I think thats what made 82 so special.Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑18 Feb 2026 17:45 pmDid you enjoy the 70’s as much as I did? Re: Does the 2026season seem like a joke?
Yes, they were, but our pitching was still terrible. The Carlton trade haunted them throughout the 70's. Plus, you had to earn that playoff spot back then. 4 teams vs. the 12 we have now. Might have snuck in there once or twice with these rules.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑19 Feb 2026 07:39 amBecause the Pirates, Reds and Dodgers were freaking loaded!zuck698 wrote: ↑19 Feb 2026 00:39 amWith Bake McBride in center, Lou in left, Reggie in right, Ted behind the plate and Keith at first, how did we not win at least one of those years? Baseball is funny that way. It can make so many of us self-anointed experts look silly. I try to avoid the small sample size, the short attention span, the bumper sticker, and the “hot take”.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑09 May 2026 23:24 pmThis is why people calling Walker a bust was a joke. Sound advice Brock. Or unsustainable stats. Also, that jump from aaa to the show is a big one. Most don't make it smoothly.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑10 May 2026 04:51 amBaseball is funny that way. Perhaps what people should internalize is that the staff of the organization - the instructors, coaches, scouts, front office personnel, etc. - know vastly more about any particular player/prospect than we do - they have to know vastly more because they are around these guys every day.2ninr wrote: ↑10 May 2026 07:12 amSound advice Brock. If the organization isn't "giving up" on Walker, Gorman, Svanson, whoever - there is almost certainly a reason for it. When these guys struggle at the ML level, they can see that as well as we can. But they must have some reasons based on what they know to give them "more runway" to try to sort it out.
The staff of the organization won't be right 100% of the time - some of these guys will still fail no matter how much "runway" they are given. But they will be right, basically have to be right, much more than posters on CT just because they have access to a lot more detailed information than we do.
A CT poster's "eye test" never trumps years worth of information from working with players on a day-in, day-out basis.

Still the eye test is used by 40 K nightly to measure those analyticals. Re: Does the 2026season seem like a joke?
The "joke" to this point is how there seems to be so much parity.
Some teams that were thought to be good have not been to this point and others like the Cardinals have been.
But still about 75% of the season left.

Well, the best we have to rely on are the "analyticals" that we have - which is far short of what the organization has.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑10 May 2026 07:33 amStill the eye test is used by 40 K nightly to measure those analyticals.
