Agreed. If he is available Hischier is absolutely a play the Blues should make.
How do you deal with him only being signed for 2 years?
You have a season to essentially negotiate and find out if he wants to stay. If he doesn't then you trade him at the draft next season, but odds are, based on history, we generally get the players we intend to keep extended.
Little risky for me in our current situation.
Depends on what we send. If it's something like Dvorsky, a 1st (#15) and a top prospect, then no I'm likely out.

If it's Kyou, #15, and a mid tier I have no problem pulling that trigger.
agreed, its like BT IMO though and probably makes more sense for another team closer to contending to take that risk/outbid us.
The thing is though if you wait too long and pass up on really good players who can help get you there those players may not be available when you are ready.

Yes I know there are always players available, but they could very well be lesser players or maybe at that point you don't have the cap room and salaries have escalated past a puke point.

Sometimes even if the team may not 100% fully be there, you get the player/s that help you get really close and speed things up ala Broberg and Holloway.
I would agree IF it was an ideal scenario contract wise but its not.
Hischier is ideal however as he has one season left. The only thing being is that if the trade would go down before the draft (which if you are talking 1st rounders it would need to) he can't extend until after July 1 so there's about a week of stress.
Yeah, that’s the rub. I’d only be interested in trading for Hischier at the draft if the Devils would allow us to talk with Hischier and we’re able to come to a handshake agreement on an extension. No way would I do it without that. Good chance NJ wouldn’t agree to that though.

That said, if Hischier is traded, I bet after July 1 is more likely. Makes things easier. And I doubt NJ would be looking for 2026 draft picks as the main pieces coming back anyway so no real need for them to rush the process if trading him is really the route they want to take.
That is the most likely scenario but this draft is when we have the most capital and we do see a decent amount of players traded at or just before the draft so it's not unheard of.
My compliments to you three -- great back & forth here. And your various conditions for pursuit are good. I will add that I would not compare the Hischier to Brady T, as I believe Hischier would fill a more critical position in our lineup. Yes Thomas is real good and Dvorsky is good and will likely get better, but we need 3 of their ability. I like Suter, but it would be great to have 3 higher-end talent.
We truly are only about 2-3 players away from being a very consistently competitive team.

We should see what Dvo learned after his longest season, his most most games played - by far- and see if he has worked on his first few strides come September. He has the pride and desire, I believe and he may not be too far away.

He broke Olympic Records for a rookie and he has everything except the conditioning for a long long season and those first few strides.

He does not turn 21 until next goddanged month.

Give him a chance to learn and work things out and grow
I’m kind of baffled reading people suggesting that Dvorsky can’t be the 2C. He’s 20 coming off of his rookie season. He’s going to continue to grow into the role. I obviously wouldn’t turn down another solid young center if the option presents itself, but we have to give these guys time.
I agree with both of you but I would love to see the Blues land what we would consider a #2 C for the competition and the injury safety net and the strength up the middle when all are healthy.

But no way do I give up on DD right now or anywhere near right now.

Yeah the injury thing is major as when Thomas went down last year we had no one to take his place and the offense absolutely suffered

I like 15 pick for a Power guy Belchetz that is like Brady. Would love him.

Thanks for the thoughts!
Robinson is as soft as butter and will be $12-13M. No thanks. I would rather have Kyrou and $5M in cap space.

Blues trading for Robertson makes no sense. He's a RFA.

https://puckpedia.com/offer-sheet-tracker

Previous poster mentioned the incongruence of $12 million and 40-goal wingers. That poster needs to research what 40 goals pays.

Same account said Blues have enough scoring wingers. Last season, Blues had precisely two who scored 20 or more.

Andrei Svechnikov for Jason Robertson.

....but to be honest I can't see them parting with Robertson. Robertson and Wyatt Johnson is their version of Boldy and Kaprizov; Mackinnon and Necas.

They don’t have a choice.

They’re way over the cap and have some unmovable contests if they want to do it the quickest way and still keep Robinson, they’d trade Johnston. But that would hurt. He’s been their 1C all year

Seguin alone isn’t enough I don’t believe. He just breaks them even
