feel stupid for firing Bob Melvin and hiring a college coach.

Pretty soon unless they start scoring some runs.
btw, his name is Tony Vitello. His strong suit in college was player development, Liam Doyle for example.

When your three middle of the order hitters have OPS of .565, .594, and .623, what exactly is a manager supposed to do? Not sure Bob Melvin would make a difference here.

It's really, really bad roster construction. They will probably be bad for a while...

This is the road the Cardinal were headed down. They chose different routes.TXCardsFanX wrote: ↑06 May 2026 19:21 pm It's really, really bad roster construction. They will probably be bad for a while...

The Giants fell in love with their outlier 107 win 2021 team and have been chasing with bad money ever since.

If that's the case, he must've got it from his old man.

Vitello is the least of SF’s problems. No manager in history is winning with that roster.

We still have pretty poor roster construction. Going to take a bit to flush it out.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑06 May 2026 19:35 pmThis is the road the Cardinal were headed down. That must be why Doyle had so many different weapons as a pitcher even before being drafted.

If it was the Cards, CT would blame Oli.NotAFathersDay9871 wrote: ↑06 May 2026 18:34 pm When your three middle of the order hitters have OPS of .565, .594, and .623, what exactly is a manager supposed to do? Not sure Bob Melvin would make a difference here.

Great point and don’t forget Doyle’s antics on the mound. I know some find that acceptable. Not me and I hope the Cards fix that not to mention teach him a few pitches he should have learned in College.cardstatman wrote: ↑06 May 2026 22:26 pmThat must be why Doyle had so many different weapons as a pitcher even before being drafted.

Nope, he didn't make Doyle a finished major league pitcher but by all accounts Doyle got stronger and tougher under Vitello while dropping 20 pounds too.fastball, fastball, fastball, and ???
I wasn't there. If you know better post it.
