I saw him in spring training a few years ago and I thought he was a no miss product of the Cardinas minor league system. Just shows how difficult it is being successful.

Even the best scouts can get it wrong. But I do think in the last 2 years STL seems to have improved in all areas of scouting and development. But it is a small sample size. We shall see.

major league pitching ?The Nard wrote: ↑06 May 2026 16:38 pm I saw Carlson play a game at Springfield years ago, when he was a highly touted prospect. He played RF and threw a runner out at 3B on one bounce. I believe he went 2for 5 at the plate with a line drive double, and his outs were also loud liners to the OF. I was convinced that he was can’t-miss. Wonder why he can’t hit anymore.

No, he showed promise when he first came up; and played a good outfield. It’s still a mystery to me.

Good luck to him in his next career. Possibly as a hitting coach.

Re: Dylan Carlson released
Look at his Statcast page.
1) He didn't barrel balls (50% below MLB avg) after the 2021 season.
2) And when he did hit, he didn't hit the ball hard (30.8% vs league avg. of 37%).
3) He batted left handed 75% of the time and was awful vs RHP.
4) He had horrible power for a good-sized guy. 43 career HRs over 7 seasons. Career .371 slugging %.
Pretty swing, but the opposite of JW. We always had hope with JW because he had such hard contact; he just needed more of it, which we hope Walker's discovered.

Why did Melville EVER think the guy was such a star?

I never understood the infatuation with him. He looked to be a solid player but never got the star potential from watching or the metrics.ClassicO wrote: ↑06 May 2026 20:26 pmLook at his Statcast page.

Re: Dylan Carlson released
Remember when people actually believe that there was ever a Carlson for Soto trade that the Cards turned down? It was amusing when facts showed it was all fake news and Carlson was never the reason a Soto trade wasn’t made.Rollin' on the River wrote: ↑06 May 2026 13:50 pm And to think we’d have Juan Soto at DH now if it wasn’t for him.
People mixing two different story into one and falsely saying Carlson was the reason the Cardinals killed it.
