Sure in the strictest sense, yes, you do get multiple pieces for one better one. I just mean there is no way we're packaging Kyrou and Buch for the #2. That's EA Sports stuff. If we're trading up, we're packaging assets that teams actively want, not the guys we're trying to salary dump.skilles wrote: ↑06 May 2026 12:59 pmActually in reality that is exactly what almost always actually happens in trades.bluetunehead wrote: ↑06 May 2026 12:53 pmQuantity won't get you quality.EKFMGA wrote: ↑06 May 2026 12:45 pm With a team like SJ that has 42M in cap space why not offer Kyrou, And Buch, Col 1st and anyone down on the farm not named Carbo, Stenberg. Linstein, Juricek they have the cap space and need veterans. that would leave 11 & 15 and what's left of the prospects after SJ at #2 to move up (rangers at #5) for a center Malhotra.
Now that would be a legacy last move for Army. Just a thought and a pipe dream.
That trade is just not the right quantity for them to make the move.

I think most importantly SJ probably has no interest at all in trading that pick for a quantity of forwards.bluetunehead wrote: ↑06 May 2026 14:15 pmSure in the strictest sense, yes, you do get multiple pieces for one better one. Any deal with San Jose I could see us asking for C Filip Bystedt in any deal. JMO

The cap blowing up really hurts us here IMO. I think ideally we'd be trading for a young player another team can't afford to keep but there probably won't be much of that available unfortunately. Then the ones that might be available have just enough contact left they can't sign long term.

I meant I'd rather trade 11+15 for Desnoyers who was the 4th pick last year. Throw in a LD prospect not named Lindstein if we have to.

Go for Stenberg, but don't get burnt in the process.
Maybe a 3-way could happen where a team with someone SJ wants has a desire for our draft picks that SJ does not.
If you can't get Stenberg with the picks, maybe try to grab someone like Knies or even a Matthews type. Kind of like a Schenn deal at the draft.
Moving Parayko would have to mean we acquire a quality vet RHD with whatever we have left after the deal, or prepare to run lefties on the right side with no identity to the defense. Maybe Mailloux is ready, maybe he's not. Hold on to next year's 1st just in case
Edit: +1 to the Desnoyers trade idea, or get Dickinson from SJ.

This is where the talent evaluation will come into play. Players like Dvorsky or Lindstein could also be part of a package to move up. As could Stenberg, Kasimaki, or others. Add in a Suter or Kyrou and a late 1st and the team could put together a decent package. Maybe a young team likes what Buch could bring. Personally I have no idea what Maholtra or Viggo or Lawrence’s ceiling’s are compared to Dvorsky.

I still think that looking to Seattle at 6 or FLA at 9 should be considered. Seattle needs pro players to make a splash. And I think FLA wants to gear up again for cup runs with some of their core aging. Neither seem to have a really strong “need” for prospects, albeit nice to supplement their systems.
Maybe something including a combination of Kyrou, Parayko, Lindstein, Ralph and 15/31 (assuming Avs win the cup) can get 6 or 9. That would net us one of the top centers or top 4-5 Dmen and keep 11 to get the second tier of each.
I know there are NTC to consider, but something like Kyrou, Ralph and #15 for Wright, #6 and their 2nd. Or for FLA, Buch + Lindstein/Ralph for #9.
Parayko would only go in my opinion if we can get back in the top 5 and get a pro ready prospect. Similar to the BUF 1st plus Mrtka deal that was on the table. As someone said earlier, this would be the year to do a 3-way trade to move up to 3-6 and have multiple teams involved. I would bet that a ton of rumors will start floating around the league regarding SJ, CHI and maybe Seattle and their picks.

This seems pretty far fetched to me. When’s the last time a pick in the top 5 got traded? The main problem is that bad teams want young talent to build around, so dealing a guy like Kyrou or Parayko doesn’t fit what they’re looking for.

This year could be a little different with so little separation between picking 6th and being in the playoffs I guess. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑06 May 2026 16:29 pm This seems pretty far fetched to me. Re: Army is indicating they can move into the top five
I do sense moving up this year is a real possibility.
DA will start off with some set pieces and the negotiations will go from there...far enough or not far enough for a deal to be had.
With multiple teams being involved around multiple different proposals, a hockey trade could well come out of this process as well, I am thinking the odds are greater for this to happen versus moving up.

I agree with this take. Especially after listening to the interview with DA I think a couple teams are looking to trade back or even out of the 1st, depending on the return.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑06 May 2026 16:28 pm I still think that looking to Seattle at 6 or FLA at 9 should be considered. On the Florida front, I think the Blues do have impact NHL players on offense, defense and at goalie that would help them win now. Could be a match if players want to move to an immediate contender in the East.
I could imagine the FLA pick leads to another move for the Blues. Lots of ifs though.

You’re crazy.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑06 May 2026 11:53 am I have a nagging feeling that its going to be:

Ivar Stenberg
Stenberg isn’t worth it. Not even close for the Blues.
Why would you give up all of that for a player that is somewhat redundant on our roster.
We are deep on the wing.
If we trade up I want a stud defenseman like Carels. Trading all those pick for yet another winger doesn’t make any sense at all.
This team needs a quality #2 center or a potential stud defenseman. If they move picks, it better be for a proven quality NHL 2C or a Carels type defenseman.

Re: Army is indicating they can move into the top five
not necissarily true. A team like Vancouver would do something like that because they need to bring in a quantitiy of talent over a single talent given their awful team. If they could turn that pick into 3 firsts, they absolutely would have interest, unless they deem Stenberg a generational that you can't pass up. I would assume San Jose is going with Chase Reid at 2 given their insane, young forward group and awful defense, or they could trade for an nhl star.DawgDad wrote: ↑06 May 2026 12:58 pmA team willing to trade out of the top-5 is likely interested in NHL players not lower picks. Toronto, SJ. Rangers? They probably want top-5 pick. Chicago? Don't know that I'd trade with them. Vancouver might bite on multiple #1s but I doubt it.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑06 May 2026 12:32 pmYes, I’m well aware of the historical draft pick value charts and yes, the value of those 2 picks together would be around or a bit higher than the value of 1 pick around the 4-5 range…but you need a team in that range to actually want to make such a move. My point would be that historically, there’s near zero precedence for a team being willing to move down that much.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑06 May 2026 12:03 pmhe says that the sheet they have (we have posted one thats probably somewhat similar) has their calculations that the team can move up into the top 5. I believe those 2 get you as far as 3-4-5 it might just be 4-5. But it's not far from 3. He said it's still dependent on what they are interested in drafting. But he does think the top 4 picks are more fluid than previous years because there aren't consensus top picks.
One reason for that is it’s simply quite rare for a team to have 2 picks in the 11-15ish range. But beyond that, if you expand it to the ~ 11th pick and another asset around the same value as the 15th (and even another asset on top of that if you want), there’s still basically zero examples of a team being willing to drop down that much.
Toronto may want now players, more than one. They might want the 11-pick to draft a center or RD for development. Blues are getting short on now players without tapping the top-line. Would Toronto still be interested in the Blues veterans?
