Send Buchnevich along with Kyrou. That’s 16 million going out and Matthews 13 million coming back. It could be done.
I'm just having a hard time you guys not comprehending that the Blues don't have a cap issue coming up. They quite literally could sign Auston Matthews without moving out a single player. Is it prudent for them to do so? Not really. They definitely need to shed a contract like Drouins. But if absolutely nothing changed today, you are looking at the Blues making 2 bigger contract moves in the offseason to shore up the team. one in RHD and 1 in forward while promoting 1 forward. But if they decided that one of those acquisitions were to be Matthews, they could do it and sign a 2m RHD, promote Stenberg (which they are going to do) and call it a day.

I agree on the cap. Make a play for McDavid, like, we'll solve your cap problems in return for McDavid and those future considerations.

Toronto isn't Matthew fault.
He would be the best player on the team if he was on the team.

Toronto problem is the same easily seen problem that many teams have Giving the C to a kid.
I can't think of it working out any where.

To boldface: He's under contract for two more seasons.

To the premise of this post. Sorry if I come off as crabby.

Says Matthews?

Auston Matthews isn't sure if he'll be back with Toronto next season, per @reporterchris

To use this "source" is questionable at best. What is "reporterchris"? How does the same know Matthews "isn't sure"? What does that even mean? He has two years of term left.

Matthews reportedly wants to see real change to the roster through trades & free agency before committing to another season.

Repeat my first rant and note the word "reportedly." Even if true, as there is no reason to believe any of this, who is Matthews to "want" management to accede to his presumed demands?

To repeat about him "committing to another season", he has two years of term left.

for sure, but when I'm saying sign you know what I mean by acquire the rights to the contract without having to make a move. So my fault, I'll say "trade" but I did talk about what would be required to trade for said player in my previous post. The Blues have the chance to get the ball rolling, I'm not saying Matthews is the right move. But I totally could see a world where you trade a team that doesn't have 1st round picks 2 1st's and a prospect for 2 years of a player at the very worst you don't re-sign because you decide you want to use the 15m+ that it would take to make that move on something else. Or you hit a jackpot and the player decides to extend with 1 year left at a decent price.

People seem to only be looking at the negatives of a Matthews. He is a defensively responsible centerman who is regarded as one of the best shots in the league when healthy. You have a need for that. There's also the idea that it might be too crowded to have a Thomas and a Matthews but then how the heck do you ever get to having 2 1C/2C players on your roster? At some point you got to make a move.

Sure, I understand what you're saying and have no argument with your points.*

Detour: My point was about the OP and the wisdom of relying on anonymous (fictitious?) "sources" to make unfounded claims.

* As to contract value and Blues need at center, Matthews absolutely makes sense, again, depending on what you suggested, the short-term price. To complicate it more, he has two years of NMC.

Two NTCs and a NMC in the same trade?

Bold move....

San Jose trades their pick for Matthews.

I have no idea if money could work. But Celebrini and Matthews, whoa.

And Toronto would have #1 and #2.

Maybe Matthews gets traded this summer, maybe not. But @reportchris is Chris Johnston. He works for tsn and he’s a pretty famous hockey insider. It’s not like he’s just some guy.
