Is Ivan Stenberg All That?

Post by TBone »

He's not a center or particularly big. Reports are he is "cerebral" aka soft and he can be pushed off the puck.

What's his area of excellence? And if the Blues win a lottery pick what would he add that we don't already have?

The brother thing would be cool, but I think I'd rather have Keaton Verhoeff over Stenberg to lock down RHD for a decade.

I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’m the only one you will hear say it but Ivar reminds a lot of TJ Oshie and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
If we win the lottery we are taking McKenna

Did you see him play in the world junior tournament? He was offensively dominant while being responsible on defense.

I don't watch NEAR the amount of amateurs that you do. The very little that I have seen...he reminds me of Steen.
200 ft. player, very smart, pretty much write 20+ goals down into stone every year. He'll never score 30 though and will probably be a 50-65 pt player.

Am I wrong?

If this is true is he worth 1st or 2nd overall?

What is he exceptional at to be drafted in a slot that should be a franchise defining player?

That's my point. There really isn't a generational type talent in this draft. McKenna is the best.
I would call Stenberg a good "SAFE" pick. Steen had a 15 year career. Nothing flashy but solid.
Steen didn't look out of place on the 1st line or the 3rd. Always netted around 20.

I think the only potential "STAR" this draft is McKenna (And I like Corels)...but again, I don't track this stuff nearly as closely as Pierre does. I'll defer to his opinion.

I don’t see Stenberg as a superstar….i believe he will be a pretty good player..70pt player eventually. McKenna for me is the only one with a chance to be an elite player. I do think that Carels and Reid will be star players…for different reasons, Reid for his offense and Carels for his overall game. None of the other dman are as good as he is defensively.
If the draft plays out like it should, McKenna goes #1 and I think the Hawks take Reid #2. Stenberg likely goes #3. If there is a change in the draft order and the Hawks move down then i believe Stenberg will go #2 overall.

I think we all know Blackhawks will be getting the #1 and taking Mckenna….🤢

Kyle Davidson tried really hard to get back in the top five in the 2024 draft to get Demidov - he offered up their 2025 round one pick which ended up being third overall. With that said - I'm glad it didn't go through because Frondell is going to be better than Demidov imo. Davidson has plenty of prospects and picks to make something happen (3 second round picks in 2026 and 3 first round picks in 2027) and his recent vote of confidence in the form of a contract extension should make things interesting.

until he's not drafted by chicago right? then he's garbo and overrated.

Are you basing this off of a precedent or is this just another cheap shot/lazy comment trying to derail a good thread...

He’s pretty universally considered the 2nd best player in this draft so yeah, he’ll most likely go 2nd. I’d compare him to guys like Nylander or Raymond - all-star caliber wingers but I doubt he’s going to reach Kucherov or Paternak tier…but who’s to say. In other years he may be more of a 3rd to 5th overall pick but in this draft, he’ll very likely go 2nd and deservedly so.

Steen is a solid compatible in terms of play style but Stenberg is way more skilled. Steen is a better comparable to Otto Stenberg than Ivar.

McKenna is pretty clearly the most talented player in this draft and the one with the most longterm potential. Stenberg’s offensive potential isn’t as high but it’s still rather high. And he’s a solid two-way player, has high hockey sense and has a high compete level.

Ivar just put up 33 pts in 43 games in arguably the 2nd best pro league in the world at age 18. That’s among the best production ever at that age in that league along with names like Sedin, Forsberg, Carlsson, Backstrom, Naslund etc.

Also, since when does cerebral mean soft? Ivar isn’t a power forward but he doesn’t shy away from contact either. Having high hockey sense in no way suggests a player plays hard or soft IMO.

Yes, you’re wrong.
You are vastly underestimating his passing and play making ability. Ivar could very realistically hit the 50 assist mark on a semi-regular basis. He may not be a prolific goal scorer but he’s an elite playmaker.

isn't that how your shtick goes? Hawks aren't good in 2016 because Bowman ruined them. Hawks were good in covid (laughing) and had a shot at the cup. You seem to change the narrative based off of anything the Hawks do and indirectly the Blues. I know, being exposed is tough.

It would be interesting to see the Blues win the Lotto tonight. That kind of luck doesn't seem to happen for them. And when they do get the chance to lock up the first pick, golf carts ruin careers.

What I actually said:
BalotelliMassive wrote: 04 May 2026 10:16 am The dagger was deep way before that happened thanks to Scotty Bowman....they were basically a zombie at that point.

That offseason Chicago lost Saad, Vermette, Richards, Oduya, and Sharp -

The last change the Hawks were in the playoffs they were eliminated by Vegas - that's a fact

At this point I'm just going to assume that you're mildly retarded or something similar.
