Herreras double- The Cardinal Way.
Good morning.
Couple thoughts here.
Did you see Herreras bases loaded clearing double. I love that play, the third runner crossing the plate full stride. Herrera is very quietly putting up strong numbers. Soon to be league leading.
Walker believe it or not, seems to still not quite barrel the ball. Lots of miss hits. If that changes, whoah.
The pen. 25 multi run innings. Say again. Twenty five multi run innings between innings 6-9. A total of 91 runs allowed. That’s 91 runs in 46 innings pitched. That averages to 2 runs per inning.
Stl pen allows over 40! Percent of runners inherited to score.
Starters are going into the sixth. If we can get six complete, we reduce the pen usage by 25-33 percent. One less reliever.
The teams we face this 10 games are not league level Aces, but the teams are first place caliber. Need a 5-5 from this set.
Finally, are you getting a glimpse of the old - Cardinal Way?
Some similarities.

Re: Herreras double- The Cardinal Way.
I think youve been beating that horse on the pitchers they face over the next x span of games. As you can see by the Cardinals record, and their rotation which is far, very far from league ace's.
Great point on their BP. If Stanek can grow off of hus past few performances, that would be huge. It just seems as one guy heats up, a prior hot pitcher hits a pot hole.
The good thing is I think this offense is going to continue to get better. They are starting to remind me of Whitey's teams of the 80s, minus the artificial turf. Timely hitting, speed, and good base running.

Yea I have kicked that horse around. But my point wasn’t what or who we were facing, it is- if we can beat them, we really might have something. We can beat good teams. It’s been a measuring stick for me.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑05 May 2026 09:04 am I think youve been beating that horse on the pitchers they face over the next x span of games. This stretch of 37 games is among baseballs best, and we sit 7 over, sweeping and winning series.

I'm not sure what you are expecting....sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑05 May 2026 08:31 am
Walker believe it or not, seems to still not quite barrel the ball. Lots of miss hits. If that changes, whoah.
SEASON
.308 .377 .585 .961
LAST 7 DAYS
.429 .452 .714 1.166
LAST 14 DAYS
.311 .385 .489 .874
If that is not "barrelling" or considered uber successful, then I do not know what is.

But I’ve seen about a dozen of his recent hits. He kills everything currently but still not on the sweet spot. When he barrels completely, look out.

Re: Herreras double- The Cardinal Way.
Please don't propagate that "Cardinal Way" nonsense. It implies the Cardinals are the only ones capable of playing "the right way" and are therefore, somehow superior to other teams that don't possess this mystical quality. I know the original thesis for this doesn't imply that, but that's how it comes across to every other fan in MLB.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑05 May 2026 08:31 am Good morning.

Ha. Pompous I agree. But the he Cardinal Way mention, was simply to describe the difference in the team this year from last. Not attempting to make it a big deal. Walker has tripled his barrel rate from 2025, now sits at 20.5% which is in the Top 3% of MLB!

From the eye test. Seems several were miss hit, found a hole, or fell in, but that’s not the over arching point, it’s that he his hitting everything and I think his EV could go up a bit.rockondlouie wrote: ↑05 May 2026 10:09 amGotta disagree w/you here BDogsikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑05 May 2026 08:31 am Walker believe it or not, seems to still not quite barrel the ball. Re: Herreras double- The Cardinal Way.
Except the Cardinal Way was always about playing good all around fundamental baseball. Moving runners, two strike approach, hit the ball to all fields, running the bases well. On D it is about always hitting the cut off man, always throwing to the right base, making all the routine plays, etc... It simply about clean, fundamental baseball and not beating yourselves. Over a 162 game season, it really matters. Of course other teams can do it too, but that was what was taught in the system. So far, this current team is fielding well, and the baserunning has been pretty darn good. Gorman made a dumb play getting tagged out at second yesterday, but it didn't cost them, and I bet he won't do that again. I can't think of too many other poor baserunning plays lately. They are making all the routine plays on D, and some pretty spectacular ones as well. Walker has pretty well learned when to unleash the canon arm, and when to play under control. It is all the little things that help you win.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑05 May 2026 09:39 amHa. Pompous I agree. I would like to see a bit more hit and run and things like that. If JJ gets on, there is the chance to do that with Herrera or Burley. But all in all, they are playing some pretty sound fundamental ball right now.

My old coach use to tell me: "See Ball....Hit Ball Hard" (in other words simplify things and don't overthink).
I loved seeing Jordan taking the same approach:
See ball, hit ball': Cardinals' Jordan Walker says adjustments helped him surge
