My preferred scenario is that Scott would play CF and rebuild his value and would be traded at the deadline to a team needing a defense first center fielder.

Two flaws with my preference: 1) He doesn't seem to be rebuilding any value with playing time. The trajectory is not good. 2) Assuming he begins to do better, people will begin to say we shouldn't trade him.

I wouldn’t hold his age against him. He took the long road but so did Riley O. His size isn’t prototypical by any means and he won’t provide traditional power for the position, but nothing wrong with strong OBP while we’re kind of getting “makeup” power from 2B.

The left-handed thing is admittedly the downside. If not Torres, I’m with you on Fermin as a much better alternative. He’s earned it too. This is the time where results should be rewarded. No way to sort out a roster than rewarding performance.

Two months is fair enough. As far as him taking a roster spot, I’d say depth is a good enough reason (for now) since Church is a rookie and could falter too. Also injury insurance. VS glove is good enough to bring him back up if needed in a pinch.
