I'd love to see Torres in LF batting 9th for a while. Give him a chance to see if his AAA play translates to the MLB level. This top 4 would be even more dangerous with a .350+ OBP out of the 9 hole
All fair points.
Here are highly relevant and enlightening facts to ponder:
He will be 29 in 2 months.
Minor league player in his 10th season.
Hit more than 16 doubles just one season.
14 career HR - 9 of which suspiciously came in a single season (2025).
in 2024, his 8th as a professional player, he was given a look in CF, logging 678 innings.
In 2025 and 2026 combined, he has logged less than 100 innings at the position - why says a lot as to how his D is viewed.
Bottom line.
A decade long minor league RH hitter who hits singles and draws walks - and his only pathway to playing time is as an outfielder, where defensively he isn't very good.
Bottom line:
Does he deserve a cup of coffee in STL?
Sure.
But he is neither part of the future nor the present.
We agree he is not part of the future.
Nothing hurt by him getting on base batting ninth for awhile though. If he is a net negative boot him out and play Fermin, Noot or maybe even Baez at some point
Agree he has earned a look.
at worst -- it shows young players coming thru the system if they show they can perform will be given a chance.
I don’t think they move Scott much. He’s a core piece in this young group. And. How do you move Torres up with Noot the Boot coming back. Someone would have to go down. That would destroy the core.
You make a great point- earn it and show the org, but overall team function and chemistry is more important right at this moment.
If Scott is apart off the future core then standards are laughable.
His career stats are terrible.
Right now he is the worst hitter in the entire league.
Career slash:
.202 .277 .283 .560
I wish the guy well in his endeavors. But he is not a core player be needs to be sent down now and play everyday on AAA and see if he can make adjustments.
Torres is an all star caliber batter.
We aren't talking about a guy on a hot steak. This guy is an on base machine.
Replacing Scott with a guy who will likely put up a .400 OBP+. Torres has proven he does better in the box discipline wise the more controlled the pitchers stuff is.
He can steal bases and play 6 positions.
If Torres can't cut it they can replace gun when Nootbar comes back

No doubt they need to give Torres a shot.
Good news on Matthews.
Baez has a single, HR (454' to dead center) and 2b (double was down the RF line, but drilled). He's starting to come on strong after a rough time. An .845 OPS now. But Torres, Crooks, Mendoza, and Prieto all have .890 to 1.004 OPS!
Good Call Classic…..power bookends in Right and left with Church in CF…..and the Cardinals might actually in over 10yr have an OF!!

I didn’t realize he had 500 ab at AAA between this year and last.
Him and JJ would make a nice 1-2 punch if he can get on in the majors. Or even bat 9th.
Scott is worse than Walker and Gorman ever were and they got sent down before.
Scott looks bad at the plate and can’t throw from center field.
I have my doubts that he will ever be a productive major leaguer.
Agreed. I know oli woudnt bat him second because he wouldnt have LL at the top but ninth would fine with him getting on base for jj and herrera
I like that idea alot. Now what else about our roster would have to open up for Blaze Jordan to get a shot.

Youth. Strange emotion.
Send Saggese down to work on his swing instead of getting splinters in his [ash] --- i am also not opposed to sending Scott down for some more steady work. The current bench pieces who have options and aren't producing should get the same treatment as the bullpen guys --- earn time with the big club performing while here or by performing in Memphis.

Agree with your assessment which was clear to me that the plan would be one whereby those who had options would be scrutinized first then others. Saggese does not have a position. Is his D better than Scott's? No. Defense is a major part of the game and so are stolen bases. He will eventually get a shot but others are ahead of him now as he is blocked in both the outfield and infield. Pozo is the chief right-handed pinch hitter. The Urius acquisition hurt his chances. It is a long season, however. Get the feeling that someone would need to get hurt in order for him even to get a chance.
