Because he's pretty good at it?
20th in attendance. I wonder why that is.
Obviously because of the manager. What fan doesn't buy tickets to see a guy carry a lineup card out to HP?

Unbelievably stupid managing on The Marmot's part.

Needlessly blowing a 3 run lead and costing his starter a win.
5 games over .500 with a horrible BP and a -8 run differential -- and some people are obsessed with the managing.

Look in the mirror and only then will you know "unbelievably stupid."

To say that Oli blew the 3-run lead is bordering on moronic. No, it is moronic.
Correct.
I think Oli is below average but he was solid today.
Hindsight ALWAYS being 20/20 of course:
*If he leaves Libby in for the 7th and he basically does what Stanek did you STILL have the same scenario in the 8th with Romero!
*HR from Alvarez(the guy is a beast!)
*Single from Altuve(another big bat!)
*Tough BB 10 pitch AB from the cleanup hitter.
*Correct move at that point going to O’Brien and a bit of a tough break on where the ball landed.

The only move/non-move I questioned was not batting for Pages with someone(Saggese??) who might have been a better bunter after the Fermin double?
Well said. I also think Oli is just okay. As you said, JoJo was the reason they were tied, not Oli.
But the infatuation with him, and the contention that he loses games while the players win them, is silly.

My opinion of Oli is that he is “below average”.
He’s not “awful” or “terrible” but below average at best.
So...you don’t replace him unless you have found someone who is clearly better.
I’m rooting for him though and not looking to pile on him on some do on this forum.
For what it’s worth I do remember wanting them to hire Skip Schumaker(sp?) instead but that time has passed.
Have a good night!

Without reading many pages of this thread, I thought he did a very good job today to bring home a win.

Start a thread “Who dislikes Oli the most.”

“I don’t like Oli.”
“Yeah, but I really don’t like him”.
“I don’t like him more than you don’t like him”.
“Well, I hate him”.
“I hate him more than you hate him”.
“Huh uh. I hate him the most”.

Make a competition out of it.

Oli is doing a masterful job in leading this team. Like it or not he's learned on the job and is evolving into a top-notch leader.
Bloom sees it hence the contract extension. Get used to it, Oli is here for a while.

Bottom line - this team is competing for him regardless.
Who would have thought they would be 13-8at this point and I believe undefeated in extra innings.

Ok, so Marmol gets the credit when the team is winning. Does he get the blame when they lose?

Just be consistent.

Absolutely- not yet a Marmol fan, but giving him credit when it’s due.

We have to be realistic here. Far too much blame/credit on the manager.
If the manager makes a move and that player fails, it was a bad decision. If the player succeeds, it was a good move.

No managers have a crystal ball. All they can do is to play with the chips they have. Try and create the best matchups, and that the player executes. If not, its all about switching gears before there is too much damage.

Nobody thought Jojo was a bad choice, but when it came down to it, Jojo almost cost them a win.

"Far too much blame" comment is the gist of this thread's origin, which was started when the Card were 9-8.
At least the whining has died down.

Stop lying. When you and others look in the mirror and you do not see Oli Marmol but yourself, then he is labeled incompetent

This is clearly true. Managers have far less impact over 162 than people want to suggest. They do, however, have a big impact on playoff series.
I'll say it again and again, Bochy had a career winning percentage under .500 and won four WS. It's 90% about the roster during the regular season.

Marmol is doing a fine job. The people who start "This game is on Marmol" after every loss have to realize people (maybe the same people) were doing that with LaRussa as well. He would get (bleep) on constantly in these threads. That is proof that no matter who the manager is, people are going to complain about every move that doesn't work out.

I'm sure Reds boards are all over Francona during this seven game losing streak. People on this board think he's some sort of savant. They'd turn on him by April 4 of his first season if he were to ever manage the Cardinals.
