Don’t understand how one can minimize the role of an mlb manager, but be such a homer for Matheny.

I’ve even moved on from the Helsley thing. The problem I have with him, is that he just keeps doing the same things, that I believe are wrong, over and over. He doesn’t ever seem to learn from past mistakes, or move on from things that don’t work. I don’t like his lineup construction, and his pitching decisions.
A couple of games ago I was complaining about him not allowing players to steal. The results were some DP’s and no runs. Yesterday’s game they ran several times, and each were a key part of the game. Why the sudden change? I find it interesting.
What's the beef?
You hate Oli. See how that works.
So you e got nothin
Ttpical.

Because the Dewitts let the franchise rot for 10 years and the fanbase finally wised up and stopped going to games.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑19 Apr 2026 13:48 pm20th in attendance. I wonder why that is.

Cookie cutter in the 6th-9th. Same guys every day. Just like with Whitey, Tony, MM, Shildt, and Oli.Melville wrote: ↑18 Apr 2026 21:20 pmMade even harder when the manager isn't very bright.
Pulling a starter after 5 innings, a mere 87 pitches, 3 hits, and 1 run.
Then pulling a long reliever after 2 innings, 26 pitches, zero hits, zero runs.
In order to needlessly burn through 2 relievers to record 4 outs on a whopping 41 pitches and surrendering 4 runs.
Which in turn forced him to bring in the closer - with a day game tomorrow.
Unbelievably stupid managing on The Marmot's part.
Irish is right - The Marmot manages like it is T-ball.

The Marmot is unbelievably stupid.
Pulled a starting pitcher who was practically unhittable and on a low pitch count.
Needlessly blowing a 3 run lead and costing his starter a win.
No small wonder Gray wanted out of town.

Matheny's final year it was fantastic. DeWitt's mistake was thinking 3.5 million fans were locked in no matter what.alw80 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2026 13:54 pmBecause the Dewitts let the franchise rot for 10 years and the fanbase finally wised up and stopped going to games.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑19 Apr 2026 13:48 pm20th in attendance. 5 games over .500 with a horrible BP and a -8 run differential -- and some people are obsessed with the managing.
Look in the mirror and only then will you know "unbelievably stupid."
To say that Oli blew the 3-run lead is bordering on moronic. No, it is moronic.

He made some good moves in the tenth. I’m not seeing any discussion on that anywhereClassicO wrote: ↑19 Apr 2026 16:49 pm5 games over .500 with a horrible BP and a -8 run differential -- and some people are obsessed with the managing.

I think Oli is below average but he was solid today.
Hindsight ALWAYS being 20/20 of course:
*If he leaves Libby in for the 7th and he basically does what Stanek did you STILL have the same scenario in the 8th with Romero!
*HR from Alvarez(the guy is a beast!)
*Single from Altuve(another big bat!)
*Tough BB 10 pitch AB from the cleanup hitter.
*Correct move at that point going to O’Brien and a bit of a tough break on where the ball landed.
The only move/non-move I questioned was not batting for Pages with someone(Saggese??) who might have been a better bunter after the Fermin double?
