Re: The whining about Oli
When it comes to Marmol, it’s not one or two things that he’s done. I’ve even moved on from the Helsley thing. The problem I have with him, is that he just keeps doing the same things, that I believe are wrong, over and over. He doesn’t ever seem to learn from past mistakes, or move on from things that don’t work. I don’t like his lineup construction, and his pitching decisions.
A couple of games ago I was complaining about him not allowing players to steal. The results were some DP’s and no runs. Yesterday’s game they ran several times, and each were a key part of the game. Why the sudden change? I find it interesting.

You got it RamFan.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑15 Apr 2026 16:14 pmI guess it all depends. Did the 2/3 consist of 9 pitches? Or 19? If it were an additional 19+ pitches, he wouldn't have gone today.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑15 Apr 2026 16:09 pmlol so an extra 2/3 would yesterday would have blown out his arm today okay I did not that’s how that’s works it’s a good thing oli is so smart he knew an extra 2/3 yesterday would have blown out his arm todayJuanAgosto wrote: ↑15 Apr 2026 15:49 pmLook at that. A need for JoJo today and he was able to pitch. Funny how that works. Guess limiting him last night WAS the right move.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑15 Apr 2026 00:15 amSo throw away today’s game because you might need to use Jo Jo tomorrow lolJuanAgosto wrote: ↑14 Apr 2026 23:22 pmGee, its almost like they have another game tomorrow. Maybe oli wants to use those guys again! But lets go with your logic and pitch JoJo 40+ tonight so he's unavailable until Saturday.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑14 Apr 2026 21:25 pmLet’s see, McGreevy pitching well, takes him out after 5 innings, 87 pitches.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑14 Apr 2026 21:20 pm Not an oli fan, but won't blame him for the lack of options in the bullpen.
Brings in Soriano, walks 1st batter, but then lights out! Takes him out after 1inning.
Brings in JoJo he also walks his 1st batter, but gets a DP and sets them down 1,2,3.
Faces 1 batter in the next inning, and with at least 4 lefty hitters coming up next, he brings in Stanek!
And you don’t blame Oli?
OK……..![]()
The unfortunate bottom line is that they cant use the same 2 guys every game. If Stanek and Bruil continue to struggle, they should, and need to be replaced.
Many on CT think the manager should never use half of the BP.
I also moan every time they use Stanek, Bruihl, Svanson - and Ryan Fernandez has been a CT-Piñata for years (good reason). Not to mention the already jettisoned Roycroft and Pushard.
And O'Brien is a closer only.
So -- until Bloom replaces chaff with some wheat, it is going to be painful. Otherwise, Graceffo, Soriano and JoJo will be burned out by June.

like him batting the pitcher in the 8 hole - he too did some bone headed things!Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑15 Apr 2026 19:12 pmMy comment was meant to include LaRussa. This board hated him as egotistical and people felt he was trying too hard to prove he was smarter than everyone else.WeeVikes wrote: ↑15 Apr 2026 19:06 pmAnd LaRussa was hated by a significant number around here too! I’d amend to say anyone who is not Whitey Herzog reincarnated has a strong chance of being disliked.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑15 Apr 2026 18:49 pmThis board has hated every manager since LaRussa, had it been around longer it would have hated Torre. No manager not named Francona is going to make them happy.ClassicO wrote: ↑14 Apr 2026 15:59 pm He's signed through the 2028 season, with a club option for the 2029 season.
The constant complaining by some adds nothing. If Bloom thinks he screws up in the next 3-4 years, he's gone. And Bloom controls the roster.
A modern baseball manager may win or lose the team 3-4 games in any year. You'd think it was 15 games based on the incessant whining by some.
And BTW - those games won't move the needle for this team.

Re: The whining about Oli
See this discussion of the Cards' baserunning this year in 18 games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWgBOSqFCGQ
They say Oli preached the aggressive baserunning all Spring with young guys.
Running:
1st to 3rd - 52% vs league 41%
2nd to home - 68% vs league 58%
1st to home - 44% vs league 38%.
And they lead the league by far with 37 "extra bases" and have only had 2 runners (non-steal) thrown out all year.
Sorry to bother everyone with facts.
A negative 12 run differential and 3 games over .500. All with 5 terrible performers in the BP (Roycroft, Pushard, Shuster, Stanek, Bruihl).

Re: The whining about Oli
Doesn’t it seem interesting, that ever since the game where this thread started, the Cardinals have been running and stealing bases?
Maybe Oli had given the guys the green light to run, but they weren’t doing it, so he got onto them for it, OR
Since he was taking some heat for not allowing them to run, he either relented and has given them the green light, OR he has been ordered to let them run!
No matter what the reason, they have been running and being successful at it.

Made even harder when the manager isn't very bright.
Pulling a starter after 5 innings, a mere 87 pitches, 3 hits, and 1 run.
Then pulling a long reliever after 2 innings, 26 pitches, zero hits, zero runs.
In order to needlessly burn through 2 relievers to record 4 outs on a whopping 41 pitches and surrendering 4 runs.
Which in turn forced him to bring in the closer - with a day game tomorrow.
Unbelievably stupid managing on The Marmot's part.
Irish is right - The Marmot manages like it is T-ball.
