Gorman not being on 2B on that dropped pop up COULD have cost them a run and the game... but it didn't... that time.

If all the players (and managers and coaches) give away advantages like that several times a week, then you will lose a few extra games per season that you could have won by simply knowing how to play baseball. You can't coach talent, but you can coach baseball and make your team the best it can be.

If a team is trying to improve, someone sets Gorman down and tells him he's not good enough to give away simple advantages and play in this league. He needs to scratch for every advantage he can get. Running at least 95% doesn't even require talent. Be ready to cash in on every mistake your opponent makes.

Smart baseball is so much more run to watch. However, the Cards haven't been as fun to watch for several years now. I'm hoping that changes.

Impressive.
It is possible that we are witnessing the emergence of a 3/4/5 middle of the order combination the likes of which the team has not had in the past 10 - 20 years.
Very good things are happening as a result of the organization abandoning its toxic practice of "playing the contract" and instead focusing on allowing talent to play.
Maybe 10 mel, but 20 years? :?

They'll never even come close to Pujols-Edmonds-Rolen

or

Pujols-Holliday-Berkman
Of course they will never come close to the MV3.
Which is why I said "last 10-20 years".
The MV3 era ended exactly 20 years ago.
And neither you nor I will ever see something like that again with the Cardinals.
Won't ever come close to Pujols-Holliday-Berkman either
Berkman was a middle third hitter in STL for exactly one year (94 RBI) - and drove in 107 runs across 2 total seasons.
In Berkman's a productive season with STL (2011), Holliday drove in 75 runs.
Pujols had 99.
Total of 268 RBI in the only season they were together in STL as middle order run producers.
Fact is, Walker/Gorman/Burleson are far ahead of that pace currently.
And, of course, can be together for the next few years if STL co chooses.
So yes, my original observation was perfectly analyzed and fully correct.
The current group should be better than anything the team has seen for at least 10 seasons - and possibly the past 20.
2022 did exist.
One of your above was in the 3,4,5 groupings. When he wasn't Pujols or O'Neill was.
Those 5 players occupied the 3,4,5 spots the majority of time. 3 are possible HOFers.
2 of the 3 finished #1 and #3 in MVP voting for 2022. The rotation of players for the third
player was a reason for not having the third cross the 100 rbi barrier, something that can easily
occur in the 2026 threesome with numbers that being extrapolated from 19 games.
SLG% from 3 of those players in 2022 were .533, 550, and .578 from players that had
a tract record of those numbers. Their best SLG's of the 3 players mentioned for their careers have been .459, .445,
and .478. I bring up SLG because they will need it as you have brought up earlier in this
thread of SSS. Herrera has scored 7 runs with his .398 OBP. These are mostly one base
at a time players. it takes XBH's, Wetherholdt won't score 150+ times.

I do want them to succeed and for you to be correct. They will need to produce at an
all star level to exceed the numbers of 2022. PG and NA had 218 rbis by themselves.
With the rotation of Gorman, Pujols, and O'Neill providing depth.
The Cardinals lineups are likely to have such going forward, imo.

I do fully understand your frustration on that play for I mentioned
the surprise with my wife in the moment. My major reason for surprise was that
he just reached 1B instead of having rounded the bag and going back or maybe
just walking back to the bag after running through it.

A player with speed AND hustling on a just past the infield pop up is standing on second
without doubt. A below average speed guy commonly running 3/4 speed in such a pop up then
turning it on when it hit the ground is less certain of being safe at 2B.

I asked myself this question. Had I seen him having rounded 1B and trotting back to 1B
after the ball dropped would I have thought differently? Not sure many slow footed would
players run hard to 2B on a pop up, rather safe at 1B than out at 2B. This while fully
thinking even slow Gorman could have made it IF he was thinking 2B from the start.

maybe I'm being overly generous

I have two more that's better than your group:

2021 Cardinals:

Goldy-NADO-O'Neil---99 Home Runs + 284 RBI's

NL MVP
2nd runner-up NL MVP

2022 Cardinals:

Goldy-NADO-Pujols--89 Home Runs + 286 RBI's

No

(And I know that 2021 w/the Paper Tyler has to really annoy you  )
The current group is on pace for 70 -80 more than those groups.
Further, The Paper Tyler was a weird, highly suspicious, one-off artificially inflated by a brief 6 week surge.
Pujols, of course, was famously served meatballs by both leagues in an effort to help him achieve 700 career HR.
Therefore, neither of your examples apply to the premise I raised.
The emergence of the Walker/Burleson/Walker trio in the early potion of this season hints at the possibility of a middle order era of production not witnessed by this team in 10-20 years.
Will they end up over 300 combines RBI's?
An if so, will it be a one time event or the opening act of a prolonged multi year era?
No one knows.
But it is unquestionably a possibility the team has not matched in at least a decade - and possibly longer.

Offense flourishes when batters don't make outs.
Worth noting that Wetherholt has scored 10 runs.
Herrera just 3.
In fact, Herrera has scored a meager 3 runs the entire season despite hitting 2nd.
He is tied for dead last with Pages, among all STL hitters with 30 or more PA's.
In fact, Herrera leads the team in PA's - and is currently the worst at scoring runs.
Reality is, he is NOT helping the Walker, Gorman, and Burleson RBI total.
Ivan has a .398 OBP. A career .373 OBP. He leads the league in BB.
Is it his fault they aren't driving him in? (He's now scored 7 runs.) He has a 118 OPS+.
Since his knee injury, his sprint speed has gone from 27.3 to 25.1. He has not been a good baserunner (joining Burly and Gorman).
I'll take him.
Admit you're trying to make up for telling us all last year: “Herrera's problem is that he just isn't very good.”

PS - remember when you told us last off-season: "Svanson should be heir to the closing role with O’Reilly best suited for 8th inning work (too many walks for a closer)." Ha ha ha

Tin foil hat stuff with AP. IF the league wanted such why just 136 PA's March through June

Incredibly unlikely these 3 get 300 RBI's together in the same season ever, let alone 2026.

Actually, it is a brilliantly posed and perfectly timed question.
I suggest that you revisit the context which I created to define this thread in the very first post:
"It is possible that we are witnessing the emergence of a 3/4/5 middle of the order combination the likes of which the team has not had in the past 10 - 20 years."
That statement is perfectly crafted.
Odd that some want to offer The Paper Tyler and Berkman as rebuttals, when in fact they both illustrate the perfection om my point: neither was every anything more than (at best) a one year aberration with no possible staying power as a member of a 3 person middle order group.
Walker/Gorman/Burleson may not become a multi year productive middle order group - but the organization has not witnessed any such possibility in at least a decade.
It is impossible for anyone to honestly argue otherwise.

Gorman 14, Burleson 15, Walker 16.
All on pace for 110+.

IF Walker, Gorman or Burleson even one of them drives in 94 runs, then we can revisit.

Not quite "...perfectly analyzed and fully correct" until that happens, if it ever does.

I have two more that's better than your group:

2021 Cardinals:

Goldy-NADO-O'Neil---99 Home Runs + 284 RBI's

NL MVP
2nd runner-up NL MVP

2022 Cardinals:

Goldy-NADO-Pujols--89 Home Runs + 286 RBI's

"...better than anything the team has seen for at least 10 seasons"........" ...and possibly the past 20"?

Nope, sorry mel

2011: Pujols-Holliday-Berkman
AND
2021: Goldy-NADO-O'Neil
AND
2022: Goldy-NADO-Pujols

were way better than the current three of Walker-Gorman-Burleson

"..perfectly analyzed and fully correct"

Not a chance the current group surpasses any one of those three, to say they'll do it by 70-80 rbis's is, well ::crazya::

No meatballs served to Albert by anyone, that's also ::crazya::

The three trio's I listed blow away the current trio you named, not even a debate.

Sorry mel, I always enjoy out chats but on this you're simply wrong.
At this moment, obviously, I am correct.
The Cardinals' 3/4/5 hitters are all in the top 18 in RBI among NL hitters - despite Walker being just 37Th in PA's and Gorman 71st.
Indisputably, the middle order is driving in runs at a high rate and with great efficiency.
Let's see what it looks like in September.
Regardless, right now, we are seeing something not witnessed in 10-20 years.
And, worth noting, all 3 came from the STL organization - something not seen in many decades.

Respectfully, I suggest that you revisit the context which I created to define this thread in the very first post:
"It is possible that we are witnessing the emergence of a 3/4/5 middle of the order combination the likes of which the team has not had in the past 10 - 20 years."
That statement is perfectly crafted.
No one has stated this trio will be the best middle order trio in the past 10-20 years.
I have said we are seeing the emergence of a 3/4/5 group which we have not seen in 10-20 years.
Which is absolutely and indisputably correct.
If you know of a similar emergence over that time frame, please share.
If Gorman/Walker/Burleson end the year in the neighborhood of 300 RBI combined, it will be a huge story not just in STL, but throughout all of MLB.
