For some like me it’s not about drinking koolaid it’s being happy the cardinals finally picked a direction. I said for years I can get behind the cardinals going all in to try to win or I can get behind a complete tear down and rebuild but I can’t get behind the sustained mediocrity approach they have been going with for years where you build a very mediocre team hope to sneak into the playoffs then pray for miracles. Sure the actual kooliad drinkers thought that that was a good approach but all it ended up resulting in is missing the playoffs occasionally sneaking in and being one and done usually in a humiliating fashion. I'm with you, 41. Sustained mediocrity was hard to watch and support. I am fine with watching prospects show us what they've got. I love the energy of a young team and a front office committed to building from within. All those kids know that they will get a shot, and that's all they've ever wanted.
Just which players are getting runway that didn't get it last year?

Gorman, Scott, Walker all got plenty of AB'S last year and when or if Nootbar comes back what do you do with Church?

Gorman and Walker, this isnt their first rodeo.

Church is the one who needs to get a real shot.
They’ve already said they don’t think players received proper instruction with the previous regime it’s not hard to figure out that they want to see what they can do with their instruction before making a decision. I’m willing to give it a year after this year there will house cleaning of those who don’t know (donkey) the test

They’ve already said they don’t think players received proper instruction with the previous regime it’s not hard to figure out that they want to see what they can do with their instruction before making a decision. I’m willing to give it a year after this year there will house cleaning of those who don’t know (donkey) the test
So what's the proper instruction?
Well I’m not in spring training and inside the clubhouse but I’ve watched a lot of videos and interviews with staff and players and the development team was working with pitchers on refining pitches and mechanics and helping some develop new pitches it’s lead to several pitchers increasing velocity and spin rate working with hitters on refining swing mechanics and plate recognition I saw a video that Larry day and his team worked with Joshua Baez on his refining his swing and cutting down his strike outs last off season it seemed to work pretty well for him last off season. I saw an interview with kolten Wong who visited spring training to talk to players and instruct and he was floored by the technology that they have said it’s a night and day difference between when he was here and now. Of course some will be dumb and say it should fix everyone then but no some players just aren’t going to cut it for several reasons but if you combine a talented player who wants to learn with proper instruction they’re far more likely to succeed than a talented player who wants to learn who receives little or poor instruction

I have no idea what the old guy "OldRed" is saying, because he's on permanent ignore. I've told him goodbye privately, and I meant it. Maybe he's a happy camper, though, after the Cardinals opening day win. That would be nice.

That was a step in the right direction..some relationships are so toxic that they pollute the entire environment around them.

The Board thanks you for coming to your senses.

Gorman and Burly have full time starting jobs at 3B and 1B, respectively, which they did not have last year. I agree, Church should get a long look. There are lots of opportunities for young pitching in 2026. No veterans blocking their path.

How often do you walk 3 in the 9th and not give up a run? A little disappointed in Libertore. I was hoping for a more dominant outing but it was opening day. Just hope the big games don't become a problem for him. Funny the Cards were actually outhit I think, but they hit the bombs. Anyway, when/if the run off about 7 or 8 losses in a row will you all be crowing? Not likely. One last thought, Scott II showed what he's capable of and why he was rated so highly. I hope he keeps it up, he could be a game changer for this offense. A good day for the Cards though and nothing makes me happier.
Certainly not. That's when you will be crowing.
I don't get how some of you take umbrage when some of us talk reality about a team that gutted payroll. Did they win? Yes, and we loved it. Can they keep it up? Doubtful, but if they do we'll love it. Those rose colored glasses though are hard to see reality through.
I don’t get how some of you take umbrage with the fact that some of us are glad they’re finally doing a much needed rebuild that in my opinion is years overdue.
Obviously we differ.

He did a nice piece of hitting. Walker's drive to center should have been caught but those things happen. JJ crushed it today. Good looking talent there. The Cards relief was shaky at best.
Because you take umbrage with gutting payroll just for the sake of being offended by gutting payroll, not because spending, at least to the $170, $180 million level that they have previously maxed out at, would make a material difference in the team being actually competitive right now.

We don't want, or not want, them to reduce payroll. We just understand that it is almost entirely pointless to throw more money at this particular roster to be marginally better, but still not competitive.
We just differ. Buying more premium players (especially pitching) can't help but add to the win total. If the stars align and they miss the playoffs by a few games then adding would have most likely gotten them into the playoffs and then who knows. We can beat this dead horse all day and it'll be the same. Why bother?

It’s called rebuilding.
It's called gutting payroll for no good reason.
