CHURCH!!
Takes away a HR and provides offense - congrats young man.
JJ HR - such a smooth swing. Solid D for the game. Fun to watch player.
Walker - Got a hit and has to be huge mental positive for him.
Mgmt sniffers - That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for Cardinal baseball.
Realist - Great action and just a fun game. Some nice hitting by whole team. Just one game of +160.
IT will all resume on Saturday.

For some like me it’s not about drinking koolaid it’s being happy the cardinals finally picked a direction. I said for years I can get behind the cardinals going all in to try to win or I can get behind a complete tear down and rebuild but I can’t get behind the sustained mediocrity approach they have been going with for years where you build a very mediocre team hope to sneak into the playoffs then pray for miracles. Sure the actual kooliad drinkers thought that that was a good approach but all it ended up resulting in is missing the playoffs occasionally sneaking in and being one and done usually in a humiliating fashion. So yea I’m glad they have finally picked a direction and sticking to it I can getJatalk wrote: ↑27 Mar 2026 06:32 am Some would say I’m doom and gloom but I’m not. I just don’t drink the koolaid like many do. I also evaluate the team and players based on more of a sample size than one game. Great game yesterday. Some really good performances by several players. Could not post yesterday because I have a life beyond CT and I was busy.

I get your point but there are those that have very high expectations for some players and seem to buy into the WHOLE philosophy of the rebuild. Sorry but still skeptical of some of the direction we are taking. But I get it. Drinking the koolaid may have been harsh.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑27 Mar 2026 09:46 amWhat kool-aid are you talking about? The team has obviously decided to go with the youth movement, and shed over priced vet salaries. It is what it is. Management didnt promise any more that that, and made no promises for this season. It is what it is. Clear and transparent. No kool-aid to drink, just the young players cutting their teeth. Enjoy the ride, but there will be plenty of bumps in the road.Jatalk wrote: ↑27 Mar 2026 06:32 am Some would say I’m doom and gloom but I’m not. I just don’t drink the koolaid like many do. Hopefully you’re feeling more confident now than a few months ago, when you copy‑pasted the LLM’s output that only counted pitching WAR and treated it like gospel.cardstatman wrote: ↑26 Mar 2026 21:30 pmI would bet my house the Cards won't lose tomorrow. I am that confident.

How many games to teams win when they give up 7+ runs? Maybe you should look it up. They aren't going to average 9 runs a game either. But as I said, it's opening day and hopefully they'll settle down now that game 1 and a win are out of the way. I liked a lot of what I saw yesterday and I didn't like a lot of what I saw also. But a win is a win.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑26 Mar 2026 23:17 pmlol when they give up 7 runs the usually don’t win is doom and gloom talk for they didn’t win the right way. And if they win 7 or 8 games in a row the doom and gloomers will dismiss it. And I was very impressed by liebratore he didn’t have his best stuff but made big pitches when he needed to and gutted through 5 innings giving up just 1 run. Good pitchers bend but don’t break when they don’t have their best stuff I was impressed. Last season when he didn’t have it all working he got lit up this shows improvementCCard wrote: ↑26 Mar 2026 22:16 pm You all know it is just one game. Right? Normally when you give up 7 runs you lose. Fortunately they came back in a big way. I'm upbeat about Church. He did a nice piece of hitting. Walker's drive to center should have been caught but those things happen. JJ crushed it today. Good looking talent there. The Cards relief was shaky at best. How often do you walk 3 in the 9th and not give up a run? A little disappointed in Libertore. I was hoping for a more dominant outing but it was opening day. Just hope the big games don't become a problem for him. Funny the Cards were actually outhit I think, but they hit the bombs. Anyway, when/if the run off about 7 or 8 losses in a row will you all be crowing? Not likely. One last thought, Scott II showed what he's capable of and why he was rated so highly. I hope he keeps it up, he could be a game changer for this offense. A good day for the Cards though and nothing makes me happier.

I don't get how some of you take umbrage when some of us talk reality about a team that gutted payroll. Did they win? Yes, and we loved it. Can they keep it up? Doubtful, but if they do we'll love it. Those rose colored glasses though are hard to see reality through.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑26 Mar 2026 23:15 pmCertainly not. Quite simple actually. Emotional Immaturity.

Because you take umbrage with gutting payroll just for the sake of being offended by gutting payroll, not because spending, at least to the $170, $180 million level that they have previously maxed out at, would make a material difference in the team being actually competitive right now.CCard wrote: ↑27 Mar 2026 10:54 amI don't get how some of you take umbrage when some of us talk reality about a team that gutted payroll. We don't want, or not want, them to reduce payroll. We just understand that it is almost entirely pointless to throw more money at this particular roster to be marginally better, but still not competitive.

I don’t get how some of you take umbrage with the fact that some of us are glad they’re finally doing a much needed rebuild that in my opinion is years overdue.CCard wrote: ↑27 Mar 2026 10:54 amI don't get how some of you take umbrage when some of us talk reality about a team that gutted payroll. It’s different. Better.
That’s enough.

The difference is probably having a bunch of talented young players who are aggressively trying to make their mark at the major league level, replacing some older, over paid players who are just going to work every day resting on past laurels.

I'm with you, 41. Sustained mediocrity was hard to watch and support. I am fine with watching prospects show us what they've got. I love the energy of a young team and a front office committed to building from within. Gorman, Scott, Walker all got plenty of AB'S last year and when or if Nootbar comes back what do you do with Church?
Gorman and Walker, this isnt their first rodeo.
Church is the one who needs to get a real shot.
