I don't understand why they would do that. Did they think some other team would hire him away? Did they think this will excite the fans who stopped attending games?
don't discount the possibility that bloom shopped the job and few were interested..
marmol might be the best they can do
Could very well be true!
My opinion:
*Based SOLELY on watching the games and seeing him handle moves in the media I rate him below average.
*I can NOT however rate him based on his interactions in the dugout/clubhouse or on the practice field.
If like you said they honestly can’t find anyone better then you stick with him until someone better comes along.
Don’t make a move solely to say you made a move!
It’s the “timing” that has me confused.
I would NOT have extended him now. He’s not going anywhere so why not see how this season plays out?
Or....at least through the trade deadline?
Could also be Bloom has two or three guys on his wish list who aren't currently available. Keep Oli thru a season where they aren't expecting to win and thru a season likely to be wrecked by a work stoppage. Re-evaluate who is available for 2028 and beyond post-work stoppage.
They just spent how many millions for players to play for other teams? They won't blink having to pay Oli for 2028 to not be the manager if that's when he can get the guy he wants.

As I have explained were perfect insight and clarity previously, DeWitt treasures loyalty above all things.
The Marmot was hired for one reason only: he has worked for the Cardinals since he was a child and will do and say exactly what he is told.
Whatever the ownership group and POBO decide, The Marmot will put on his skirt and cheerlead the plan.
That is why he was hired.
It is why he is still employed.
Matheny was loyal and he was much better than Marmol.

Rumor was Willy Wonka was heavy after him to to be the manager in his chocolate factory
Couple thoughts. If he wins this year any at all over the 70 predictions, he’s a winner. Then the lockout. Does that count as his year two?
Doesn’t signing on to manage a predicted loser indicate a bridge over troubled waters.
Most likely correct. Bloom figures the dump will last 2 or 3 years. Marmol presides over it and then we get a new manager.

True
And to take it a step further they may see Oli as a good “organizational” man??
Translation- If he fails as Manager in 2026.....and like you said....someone they have their eye on becomes available......he could just be replaced and moved somewhere else within the organization(minors, scouting, etc)?????

Matheny was easily the worst manager we've had since TLR.

Here for the implosion.
Same. The fanbase always take the hate for the manager to an unwarranted extreme. It’s been that way since I started reading this board.
The attendance reflects fans feelings, not this board of very few.
+1...I'm in Section 148 and am anticipating even more booing for DeTwit and Oli...and it was pretty loud for the Mo-ran last season...his legacy will be reflected in the attendance...even the front office (donkey) kissers recognize this.

I think possible. Manager thru a rebuild. Hold your own, maybe another extension. Or. Get thru the rough time. Hire new. Start fresh.

Thinking someone is not a good fit for a job isn’t hatred. When you go through a job interview and the company hires someone else it wasn’t because they hated you. They just thought someone else could do the job better.
