How so? Just roster churn of spare parts that will serve zero meaningful purpose.
Because, with Ramos, you had an Elite fielding 3b, who has shown "some" pop from the RH side at the ML level. Was he a guarantee? No, but he was a zero risk player to give a shot to for a team lacking RH hitting.
I'd rather that, than claiming a pitcher, and immediately designating him and exposing him to other teams

Was Ramos a good fielder as well? I know he showed flashes of power. Makes the move even worse, he was only 23/24 too :x
I think he was the number 3 prospect for the white sox at one time...I could be wrong but I thought I read that somewhere
Ramos is not a good fielder definitely no where close to elite can’t hit either the cardinals already have a no hit poor fielding third baseman

If they had wanted to keep Ramos or Kent, they would have placed one of their injured pitching prospects on the 60 day IL and cleared a spot on the 40-man roster.

Instead they played the "sneak the guy through waivers" game multiple times to be able to keep them without using a 40-man spot. Ramos and Kent are on other team's radars. More so the more times they get waived and picked up.

I'd say enough is enough. Move on. Both Ramos and Kent are definitely spare parts to the Cardinals. Otherwise clears spot for them the next time they get waived.

There was room for 2 until we signed Urias.

Roycroft survived. He will be 29 in June and spent 2025 struggling in AAA.

I would have kept Ramos and let Roycroft go but I have little information about why they think differently.
When they got Urias Ramos was no longer needed they were going to have to send him down and lose him on waivers anyway. Urias is a gold glove infielder who can play multiple positions and is a veteran who by all reports is a great influence on younger players. Ramos is a career .198 hitter in 119 career plate appearances and hit an awe inspiring .216 at AAA last season it was a fairly easy call. Oh he’s also 0-1 in spring training which if he did that for the cardinals some posters would be having a meltdown because he’s hitless
They dropped Ramos before picking up Urias. And stating Ramos' career is disingenuous since he has only had a cup of coffee in the bigs and is only 23. Urias didnt even get to the bigs until he was 25/26 years old
They were probably already negotiating with urias at the time they picked up ramos. Ramos sucks hes not going to make the orioles they will try to sneak him back through waivers and the cardinals and any other team will have another chance to pick him up. Ramos sucks so bad the whitesox didnt even think he worth keeping around. And so what if he’s young a young player who sucks still sucks

Haha thats true, he def. leaves a lot to be desired now, but if it came to who to keep over Ramos, Kent, and Roycroft I would choose Ramos every time mainly because of potential and youth. It wouldnt have kept me from signing Urias as well. There is a chance he can find something and click eventually. Kent and Roycroft warm bodies in the pen that are easily replaceable.

That’s true but I think the thinking was he wasn’t going to make the team so hopefully they can sneak him through waivers to the minors. I’m not a fan of Kent or roycroft but I get their reasoning for their spots. They have very good stuff and with relievers you never if and when they will click. Before last season there were those who didn’t know why Riley O’Brien was still on the the roster said he was hot garbage and old and had an 11 ERA the season before. When they traded for Romero there was a lot of of complaints because they said he sucks a waste of a roster space because he had ERAs of 7.59 7.00 the two years before and a 13.50 when they traded for him but something clicked. So I’m guessing they want to collect as many big arm bullpen arms As possible and chances are if you have multiple of them one of them will click and become like O’Brien and Romero. So I get the strategy and it makes sense

Yeah thats fair, and there is a chance there was something about Ramos they just didn't like and think he would ever make it big. Disappointing, I will just trust Blooms judgement on that one, they see a lot of stuff we dont see
