I actually agree. Not that they will be good, but I do think they will be a tick better given the at least decent sp.

My hope is they play strong fundamental baseball, Oli shows some imagination (more SB's, squeeze plays, hit & runs, ect...) creating runs and they play TLR"s hard nine.

Do that and fans will react.

St. Louis loves a team that plays the game the right way and hustles.

Hear, hear. I'd like for Oli to continue to grow as a manager.

They also like teams that win.

Good fundamentals and hustle should be a given.

Better to be an optimist and be wrong than a pessimist and be right.
Why?

A cardinal fan who hails from the "show me"state that is unwilling to be optimistic, wins either way.

If correct, then can say, "I told you so." If incorrect and l'chaim proves to be proficient at rebuilding, successful prospects and training, then, as a fan they win.

This year:

1. Team shows fundamental improvement defensively. Ex throw to right base or cutoff player.

2. Team shows fundamental improvement in all aspects of offense. Hitting to opposite field, bunting,

3. Team shows improvement of understanding and performing in game situations. Understand the game situation when running the bases, etc.

4. Ship out the dead wood. No more could be.., would be..., only if they.., etc. Talent plays not what if's.

The product on the field, maybe not the W-L record, sould improve if the above is attained.

You expect the MLB St. Louis Cardinals to be at least as baseball sound as a good High School Team
I suppose it’s all about expectations…..most who post here seem to be happy if the boys remember to tuck their uniforms in and tie their cleats…..
How did Cards fans go from Expecting to win the Central and make their way through the playoff rounds to hoping “the Player throws to the correct base ::crazya::

I agree with your take on the importance of “fundamentals”.
Raw talent of course might take precedence when it comes to performance but basic fundamentals are often overlooked.
Last season the base running and plate discipline stood out as being poor more often than not.
Sitting at home it’s tough to tell the “root cause” of the mental mistakes.
Of course the spontaneous decision making is on the player BUT how much is coaching involved?

When I go to Longhorn Steak House, I want to get the New York Strip. Then, I look into my wallet and order the 6 oz. sirloin. Reality is a b word.
