This is Miami Dolphin [nonsense].

Pick up and release guys Willy Nilly. Sign em, sign someone else 2 days later, cut prior guy, rinse and repeat. Till picking up that first guy again after being cut from a few other teams.

None ever amount to anything other than a few days pay for a lot of stiffs.

I was him, I wouldn't get on the plane. He may be dropped prior to landing.

Snark aside. Right handed bat. Deployable throughout infield. Former GG at 3rd. Great back up option should Gorman fail.

Not a slouch at the plate and a bit, a bit, not a lot, of pop.

Very well may turn out to be a solid pickup.

But what about the guy they just [shirt]canned to add him?

You should look up Ramon Urias. This isn't just some stiff being picked up on waivers. He's a good player.

Please see my amended comment. I agree. Could be a very solid pick up. Versatile. A few strengths. No crippling weakness.

Playing Saggese in leftfield is an interesting idea, at first I didn't like it but maybe it is better than having the weak arm at 3B. He may end up being the variety of versatile that isn't necessarily above average at any of the positions he plays.

So bringing in a veteran defensive 3B implies that they don't plan to give 3B 100% to Gorman. Gorman IMO should be the primary backup infielder, seeing time at 1B 2B, 3B, DH without having the majority at any position. Pick your spots with him where you can mix and match him against righties that throw a lot of middle-middle fastballs (if we face Mikolas).

C: Herrera, Pages, Pozo
1B: Burleson, Herrera, Gorman
2B: Wetherholt, Gorman, Urias
SS: Winn, Urias, Wetherholt?
3B: Urias: Gorman, Fermin?
LF: Saggese, Burleson, Nootbaar, Fermin
CF: Scott, Nootbaar
RF: Walker, Nootbaar
DH: Gorman, Herrera, Burleson

Looks like the longer Herrera sticks at C, the better chance Gorman has at getting semi-regular fulltime play as the DH, playing an infield spot on the days Burleson is the DH.

At a certain point, I think Saggese could become expendable honestly. Fermin is right-handed and can play better defense at every one of those positions.

I think it more so has do with Saggese getting more outfield time this year
then Gorman is probably thinking "there goes some of my playing time".
(wouldn't surprise me especially when oppo starting pitcher is a LH)
He would definitely be a late inning defensive replacement for him
He won’t be that primarily.

Come on, Ozzie. Cards just signed a really good glove at 3b. Shouldn’t you be thrilled?

Why should I be thrilled about a meh hitting good glove third baseman they just traded one and picked up another. I guess he’s a cheaper version of Arenado nothing to be thrilled about it’s just meh

It pretty much says that they don’t think Fermin is anything, or Torres either. So much for a rebuild to see what their guys can do. This will have to cut into Gorman’s and Saggese’s playing times too. If they were actually trying to win this might make some sense, but they seem to be doing some flip flopping here.
Now, if they were to trade Nootbaar it might make more sense. Saggese gets more reps in LF. To not play Saggese or even send him to Memphis is just idiotic!

What a dumb signing this would be, especially for a rebuilding team…so yeah why trade Nado if you are going to pick up a slightly lesser version of him to eat up a roster spot??? I would have rather kept the potential that Ramos may have offered as a near prospect than a journeyman past 30 INF…even if he has a good year…so what..they are winning nothing in 26

Saw some footage. He looked very Arrenado-esque on D. How frequently? don't know.

Well, for one, I think it shows that Bloom isn't printing out 162 lineup cards with Gorman at 3B. I know my opinion here is a bit conjectural, but I think this shows that Gorman has a shorter leash than you might have assumed.

Also, about Ramon's hitting:

2025: .675 OPS
2020-2024: .736 OPS,.328 OBP, .408 SLUG

Not great, but pretty good for a versatile guy with a really good glove.

Sources say free agent INF Ramón Urías met with the Cardinals today and is closing in on a deal. Originally signed by St. Louis as a free agent from Mexico, the 31 year old righty had 11 HR and a .675 OPS for Baltimore and Houston in 2025.
Sounds like it is a minor league deal. A little surprising he had to settle for that, but makes more sense from Cardinals perspective.

nope. MLB deal.

latest this morning from MLBTR:

February 21: Urias is in the Cardinals’ clubhouse today, per an update from Jones. It’s expected that Urias and the Cardinals signed a major-league deal. Urias had his physical yesterday, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The Cards have a full 40-man roster and will need to make a corresponding move if this ends up being a major league deal for the Wasserman client.
